Sometimes I think it's the only thing that works. The perfect monarch. The true one-man rule.

The guy would have to be nice, though. ;)

Then you just need to worry about the people below him.

Ah, yes. That's what I've always worried about.

Utopia? Any takers?

Here's a reason- you put the wrong guy in office and you'll be drafted and fighting a war in some foreign country giving your life for his cause.

In theological terms: fallen mankind is incapable of attaining such a system.

Other terms: people are too selfish and corruptible on the whole.

Australia is about as close as your going to get and even they have some problems.

That's a very good reason, but what if 90% of your country's population doesn't care about politics or votes for who spends most on political propaganda and not for who they think might be best?

Where I live, usually it's whose face is stuck on the most walls or who has the most cars driving through cities blaring out their name that take the pie.

Since when was the last time anyone's been drafted?

I realise there will always be problems. I just wish there were less, but I don't see a solution in the way politics has been carried out in most parts of the world.

Too bad Utopia doesn't exist, I would sure love to live there!

My flaw.

Except that no individual can impact an election result even in a hypothetical idealized democracy, and under our current system the elections are often rigged anyways.

Rigged are they? How do you support this? I would say democracy is a bad idea anyway because it takes after Appeal To Majority Opinion. Equally stupid are people who think a person is a good leader if they're good at public speaking.

No, I don't care how many people claim to be Christian or claim to be this or that. Aside from personally seeing resurrection from the dead I also have researched on my own quite a bit. I was once partially agnostic, but now I see Christianity as the only valid option.

Others have done so in great detail if you feel inclined to read about it; I don't particularly desire to duplicate their efforts. I live in Ohio and watched the election results coming in during the 2004 election. Several districts in my state had more votes for W than they had voters. There was no real attempt even to hide the fraud.

Incidentally, we have two states in the Union that have more registered voters than they have people. That alone is enough to refute any claims that we have valid elections. Let's see, what else... the Diebold executive who was in charge of counting the votes for this year's primary elections in several Northeastern states (including New Hampshire) happens to be a convicted cocaine trafficker. Diebold-counted votes in New Hampshire did not match up with pre-election polls, exit polls, or hand-counted ballots- but the latter three all agreed with each other. There is plenty more I could write, but as I said, these matters have already been given extensive treatment and I feel no need to write my own thesis on the topic.

To me, whether we have fair elections is largely irrelevant because, as I have posted before and others, yourself included, have agreed, democracy is a lousy idea. The vote-rigging comment was simply made in response to someone who said that we should vote in order to ensure we have good leaders. This is absurd, because any person's voting does not increase the chance of a competent leader being elected. But vote-rigging still ticks me off. I don't like democracy, but even worse is corporate oligarchy posing as democracy.

Judeo-Christian God that is. Yeah, I don't notice Allah or Ra under much attack.
