I don't think any of them should be locked, I just think if anyone takes it too far and gets serious then that person should be barred from these types of threads. But I think it's just PC BS. Look how much we're accomplishing by taking a light-hearted approach to these issues, by being able to laugh at ourselves, by being able to all come together and take a critical look at ourselves, no matter what color we are. And I'm sure there are people here of many different colors. If people aren't as defensive about these issues, if people aren't so scared to discuss these issues honestly, we're more open to work through them, together, in a positive way, that is fair and equal for everyone.
What I find weird (though not at all surprising) is why whites are still an open thread but all other races are having their threads shut down. It reeks of this double standard PC crap where they wanna pretend that only white males have ever oppressed someone, and that certainly "nobody has ever oppressed whites".... People can joke around and/or talk s**t about whites all they want to, because of something that happened hundreds of years ago... But the minute someone jokes about or even uses constructive criticism of any other race or their plight, it's "racist" and "must be shut down." But. then again, this one isn't shut down, although it may have something to do with the fact that there are very few truely red people for the PC police to feel that they have to play over protective nanny to......
I think we should all be able to make light hearted jokes about these things, as long as nobody actually seriously means what theyr saying, I don't think it's a big deal. But the same rules should apply to and for everyone, and this includes white people. And most stereotypes are to some extent true, otherwise they would not exist. I'm not saying that you should generalize an individual based on their color, or gender, or w/e though.
I'm mostly Irish and German, yes, I love chocolate and I love potatoes and guiness. So, if that's an issue, bite me. It isn't affecting anyone. But I'd like to be able to laugh at myself. I don't try to take myself that seriously. There are 3 types of stereotypes, general stereotypes that don't really matter (like the ones about myself I presented above), and negative stereotypes (ie "blacks are criminals" or "Germans are nazis"), and good stereotypes ("black men are hung"). But a stereotype can never be attributed to an individual, an individual may not even come near to meeting any of them.
I mean this is how free speech should work, when people are willing to lighten up, take a critical look at ourselves, and put our egos aside, and work together to progress ideas, to discuss among ourselves where each of us are coming from, so that people of all colors may get a better understanding of one another. And I think this is certainly a helluva lot more "multi-cultural" than PCness.
