Clinical death is more profound than depression, no matter how severe the depression. When your heart & lungs stop, when your brain has no electrical activity, when your body temp goes down, when your pupils no longer react to light, you are medically and legally dead. A depressed person, even a suicidally depressed person, is still a living person.
