There will be riots if Obama is assassinated. That must be what the repugnicans want.

Well I have read that the guy who shouted "Kill him!" was questioned by the Secret Service.

the Rev. Arnold Conrad, past pastor of the Grace Evangelical Free Church. His prayer before McCain arrived at the convention center blocks from the Mississippi River appeared to dismiss faiths other than Christianity and cast the election as a referendum on God himself.

"I would also pray, Lord, that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god — whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah — that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons," Conrad said.

"And Lord, I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because they're going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you will step forward and honor your own name with all that happens between now and Election Day," he said.

Presidents and presidential candidates have always been targets of assassins and radical groups. That's why they've got the Secret Service.

As it should be - anyone who makes threats against someone's life or incites others to violence should come under legal scrutiny. Odds are that the Secret Service won't do anything other than put the guy on notice, as it was probably just heated words and he was not making a real threat. A history of mobs shows that most are involved only to increase the adrenaline of others and focus their anger on the target - for every person lynched by the klan or killed in a pogrom, a few thousand hot-heads are needed to set the emotional conditions necessary.

Quote:
Georgia congressman and Civil Rights leader John Lewis, reacting to the increasingly incendiary atmosphere at McCain-Palin campaign rallies, condemned the GOP for using tactics that are creating a mood not unlike the one created by George Wallace, the former segregationist governor and presidential candidate. Lewis accused the Republicans of "sowing the seeds of hatred and division," and warned the McCain campaign that they are "playing with fire"

The Minnesota gathering lacked that kind of harshness, but sustained booing greeted many of McCain's attempts to discourage the crowd's fear and anger. Of the 21 questions posed to McCain during 45 minutes of give-and-take, one-third challenged him to take on Obama more aggressively, with a few making incendiary comments.

Late in the town hall meeting, Gayle Quinnell of Shakopee called Obama "an Arab." Taken aback, McCain shook his head and, taking the microphone from her, said, "No, ma'am. He's a decent family man, citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues."

After the rally, Quinnell was unrepentant. "You can't trust Barack Hussein Obama because he is a Muslim and a terrorist," she said.

Obama is a Christian.

McCain repeatedly tried to dial down his supporters' antipathy toward Obama. "I will fight, but we will be respectful," he said. "I admire Senator Obama" -- as the crowd booed loudly -- "I want everyone to be respectful. ... I don't mean you have to reduce your ferocity, just be respectful."

so an arab can't be a decent family man?

this is so absurd. even though i'm not voting for him, i'll join in the rioting if obama is killed. this kind of idiocy and racism is not to be tolerated.

you know, that was the FIRST THING I THOUGHT! But the mere fact that Sen. McCain was snatching that microphone back from her hands and having to think up SOMETHING quickly to cut her off at the pass was rather encouraging that maybe some rational and PRODUCTIVE can occurr in the campaign.

but I did see another video of the woman that asked the question that was made after the rally. I can't get it embedded into WP though because it is not on YouTube.

I think you are over-parsing McCain's words. There have been numerous bogus charges against Obama at the McCain rallies and in the blogs, etc. In this case, McCain cut-off the woman and affirmed that Obama was a good person. So I think McCain was moving in the right direction and doing right in this case. I believe his statement was his general position or a 'talking point' and not a reply to the specifics the woman raised.

mccain's: yes. the common dumb-as-dirt citizen republican: no.

mccain did as best as his senile self could do to recover and keep this civil.

the racist level of this country and these cavemen who can't see past obama's middle name being hussein is just disgusting and these people should be treated like the neanderthals they are.

I’ve lost a lot of respect for McCain. I think this just goes to show that he himself doesn’t believe the blatant lies and insinuations coming out of his campaign. He’s just putting out whatever BS his campaign handlers come up with and not bothering to use his own moral discretion. He’s coming off more and more disingenuous. He obviously can’t think for himself.

Ever read The Man? It's early Ludlum (1972) before his name was slapped on endless Bourne Crap retreads. In the book, the first African American president is elected during a Vietnam-type crisis point. He fails to calm the nation, and is killed. The nation falls apart along racial lines. Unlike this sort of novel today, The Man is a real thinking man's book of the type that nobody writes anymore. It's worth reading.

Unfortunately, the black rioters would just kill you. White radicals have joined in black riots before, only to end up with their heads kicked in. If any whites want to burn cars if Obama is killed, I'm there. But I'm not gonna step into a race riot being the wrong race. People on Craigslist are already talking about the inevitable victory of the white conservatives after the war following Obama's death. I don't think white people will win this one.

Ahh, race riots. Am I the only one here who thinks it is bs to think in terms of race?

I have wondered if black conservatives (or other colored conservatives--like myself) care so much about "race" than their liberal counterparts? I am not blind to color, but I am also not willing to just side with people of my skin color just because others don't look like me. It is stupid.

All of this colored groups should disband and understand they are all americans. Not to mention the different struggling classes. it makes me sick.

Seriously, yo.

no i agree fully with you. that's why i posted the video of howard stern where they interviewed black people and put mccain's views on obama and checked to see if they were still voting for him. they included saying that sarah palin was his vp pick.

but the bottom line is that most people are too stupid and simple minded to think beyond race.
