I still say it was Al-Qaida mostly.

I've seen the conspiracy theories(like Loose Change, etc) and while they do bring up some good questions, some of their conclusions are still a stretch to take seriously.

However I won't disagree that the Bush used 9/11 as an excuse for the Iraq war, eroding rights, expanding government and generally creating this aura of "fear the terrorists" mentality we're stuck in.

well the climate is a summation of US foreign policy, sayeed qutb, zawahiri, egyptian torture, and overall the idea of "he's a bastard but he's our bastard"*.

*yes, i stole that part from where in the world is osama bin laden but it's fairly accurate in what played a large role in creating such venomous hatred in the middle east against the US.

Bin laden may have been directly in charge of the attack, the highjackers may have been saudi, but the usa governement (as well as their hidden illuminati masters) were the ones that planned it all. Think about it. Due to 9-11 we have less freedoms, there is more central control, and we are heading more and more in the direction of being a police state.

Once I heard this complex story about how the US got these terrorists to do it for monetary gain, and although it wouldn't surprise me in the least it's impossible for any ordinary person to know for sure.. So it's really not worth thinking about very much.

On the contrary, let the topic live I would say!

Why was America targeted, rather than Britain or France ?
Why were the twin towers targeted ?
Why did those particular arabs decide it was a good idea ?
I could list a million "Why?" questions ... none of which are an answer on their own. That is why I say that the CAUSE of 9/11 is complex.

well, being the leader of the western world, greatly discontent towards their policy in the middle east, I mean, USA's goal in the middle east have been to get their hands on the oil from their land, labeling them as materialists imperalists, religious point of view about the west, etc. Plenty of reasons for them to hate America, mostly in a political and religious level. Although that is for hating America not necessarily for perpetrating the attacks, but can or can't they be linked?

I've never understood what was scary about it, it was good conversation material, but now it's just old news. Nowadays most see it as a marketing tool anyway.

You goddamn sheeple. Learn the truth.

If you slow down the footage enough you'll see that what you thought were planes were actually large, winged hotdogs.

If there's one thing this situation proves, the truth is hardly ever as sexy as a good conspiracy theory and its tough for people not to cave into that - especially its seen as the l337 thing to think.

Yes, conspiracy theories are more interesting than the truth.

Not to mention they tend to be fed by the current 'secular religions' so to speak which take a leap of faith about the concrete and physical rather than just the spiritual.
