Yep, filthy rich 401k holders. They'll still most likely be losing their shirts but hopefully the holders in the supply chain won't be bludgeoned quite as badly.

i think its just a way to steal from the people, i just cant see how taking money from all americans and giving it to filthy rich shareholders of GM is supposed to help america

I'm not American, but a few minutes with Google tells me that GM suspended dividend payments for common stock earlier in the year. As I assume you are American, and as this is an issue of national importance to Americans, one would have hoped you'd have done a little research before forming an opinion. Whatever the rights and wrongs of government providing the money, it will keep some Americans in their jobs a little longer. As for your obvious contempt regarding shareholders, you may do well to reflect that without those shareholders the company wouldn't exist in the first place. Moreover, many of those "filthy rich" shareholders are undoubtedly people just like your parents, saving for retirement.

Really? Why not try writing a response to support that assertion?

Lol, this is why I sometimes think my life would be so much easier if I was on the left. Just give an amorphous disqualifier to what someone on the right says (like "you don't know what your talking about" or "Bleh, that's just a talking point") and if it sounds good - you won the argument without having to say a single thing of substance.

Yes, I see what you mean. Unfortunately there's a lot of ignorance surrounding the mess we're in at the moment, and most people only have vague opinions based on the half-truths promulgated by politicians, tabloid media and church that are designed to provoke the prejudice and jealously of the ignorant. Hence the popular view that bankers and shareholders are the root of all evil, without the ability to define why that is the case, or even to define exactly what a banker or shareholder does.

What falcorn wrote actually made me laugh. Just thought I'd write that

Well, just remember, Bush can't do anything without congressional approval, and the Democrats rule congress.

Plenty of "suck" to go around.

Well, you best get over your inhibitions, falcorn, because it's one thing feeling dumb, and another looking it because you can't explain exactly why my comments are "stupid". I'd suggest you lay off with the attempts at insult, too, because you won't win.

Now, let's all be civilised and you explain to ascan your reasoning.

Hmm... I'll tell you what makes me laugh: the thought of an American trying to speycast with a double-handed rod. I guess from your avatar you probably can. You ever fished for salmon over here?
