Can you provide repeatably verifiable evidence of Mod?

Is this the Mod of the Goslins, the Fistulans, or the Moose?

Mod is one that will bring swift retribution for those who boldly commit sins...

Verily I sayest unto thee that I have not seen Mod, nor do I knowest Him, Her, It, or whatever. Where goest this Mod? From whence comest this Mod of which you speak? It is said that in the time of smiting, one will be left, and another will be gone; for such is the power of the Holy Banhammer. Yet I have felt not its sting. Yea, I have not felt its crush. Does Mod truly know all and see all that passes within these demenses? Does Mod truly utter "CHR$(127);CHR$(10);CHR$(13)" and cause life as we know it to cease?

Show me your Mod, and I will believe.

Here's the whole scripture:

Armament 2:9-21 wrote:
And the LORD your MOD will come as a Tinky in the night, and will leave his Mark on all peoples. Lau, His retribution is swift against those who Boldly commit Sins, and once the judgement is complete, people judged unworthy will lose a Quarter of their Mass...

Well aside from being pretty agnostic in general, Unitarian Universalism is as close as I've found to a church or religion that fits me.

My mother is Mormon. My father is an atheist. My grandmother is Presbyterian. My sister has been predominantly Christian I believe, although in recent years I think she's taken to more of the bible-thumping variety than in the past.

I can actually cite several very respectable scientific studies that show that there are tangible advantages to believing in a "higher power", irrespective of whether or not there actually is one. It's been proven for one that exposure to religion can help to keep people honest (reduce "cheating"), and believing in "a plan" or at least that "everything will work out" is very generally beneficial. That belief helps people to be more persistent which generally helps them to be more successful in their efforts as well.

Mind you that I'm not saying religion is without drawbacks. Throughout the course of history religion has had plenty of drawbacks and the atheists are quick to point them out... but they're being stupid when they insist that it has no benefits, because that's just ignoring the evidence.

This book I've been working on suggests that a healthy, responsible and productive lifestyle involves choosing your beliefs and then with regard to religion behaving as though the scriptures of your chosen religion are all parables, i.e. a story to illustrate a point, NOT a fact. I think all of the religious leaders - Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, etc. - are actually better people when they're fictional (as I believe they all are).

But in spite of the fact that I believe all the characters are fictional, I'm still fond of "god" and animism as chosen beliefs. (Though my view of "god" is much more abstract than I think is true for most people.)

Long story short, I find atheist missionaries equally as distasteful as Mormons and Jehova's Witnesses... In some cases even more so, because at least Mormon's and Witnesses make an attempt to be polite and feign an interest in you as a person. What I get mostly from atheists is "nya nya, you're an idiot, I'm better than you". Though fortunately not all atheists are missionaries.

But that's just my opinion.

That sounds rather UU to me.

No, I don't think I will.

Believing in God does not automatically make one religious. In order to be religious you have to find a few other people who are willing to hold the same theological opinions, and I've never managed to do that.

Now if you wanted to start a Annoyed by Preaching Atheist club, that would be different.

But is is also written:
Retributions 7:11-27 wrote:
"Yet there is One Most High, who shall be called Admin, Owner, and Sir, who devotest His days to innumerable tasks of great import and mystery, thus requiring the creation of servants, who shall be called Mods, and whose light and wisdom shall shine forth throughout His creations and inspire much awe amongst the faithful, and fear amongst those who will be cast out, for the Mods shall be as Lords over all, and carry the power of the Holy Banhammer, and shall smite the unworthy, casting them out into the darkness where there is much bad wine and broadcast television."

Obviously, then, there is a higher authority that Mod, and there is indeed more than one Mod. And since this is so, are there Mods who walk among us, unseen and unacknowledged?

I'm glad this thread has at least been amusing.

Atheism is a fundamentalist outlook that is similar to religious fundamentalists. Sometimes I forget that there are still bible thumpers taking everything literally. Atheists are the ones telling them they are wrong. Let them fight until eternity.

I believe in a creator. I've felt the presence of higher spiritual beings. I believe God is Infinite Intelligence. We are all infinite.

Maybe we were spawned by aliens, who knows. But then who created the aliens?

Raelism is the religion thou seekest.

As for me, I believe that we will never understand what God is, it is beyond human understanding. I believe that the universe is an emanation of God.

Peace.

To believe in one Mod or any mod without getting verifiable evidence is delusional, until I physically talk to one face to face, then I will believe.

Heck, it was just some random PPR chat. I mean, we were talking about how many religious people are regular posters on PPR and whether people are more fun to be around sober or drunk. I suspect, though, that the mod(s) responsible did not read the entire thread but merely saw a blatant rule violation, assumed there was mass flaming going on, and shut it down. Not a horrible decision, considering what it looked like and the issues we've already had of people discussing Chever's banning, but from a PPR insider view it seems a bit hasty. Just gives another example of the lesson we all refuse to learn: mods are human too. They act on their best judgment, but can't always please everyone.

I'm agnostic/apathetic (but philosophically Jewish), but I think that butthurt atheists are almost as annoying as fundie Christians. See also: 50% of commenters on Pharyngula, a blog that I otherwise enjoy.
