Wow judging by the polls, I must have some severe self-esteem issues.... :(

You're still you, no matter how much you change. People would choose to be their own self.. because they think that being better, is being worse? That changing from your original, weak mind, and getting a better, closer-to-perfect mind is bad?

That's it, really. I mean, why would you not want upgraded life-coping abilities? In all or most cases, that would have to include some personality modification. To put it another way, personality modification and increased life-coping abilities are two sides of the same coin. People's personalities change when those people mature; the hypothetical I'm proposing is simply an increased, artificial version of that type of natural, slow improvement most of us experience over time. You're still you, no matter what. These hypothetical future doctors wouldn't give you someone else's personality, just an enhanced version of your own. Now, it may be very enhanced, so that your friends and family are a little weirded-out by the change at first, but they and you would hopefully be mature enough to adjust to the change over time. The end result is that everyone is better off.

Should we cling to the bad things about us?? Or should we seek to "shuffle off" (as Shakespeare might put it) our weaknesses?

I don't see why not go ahead with it. I've already been so many different people in my life, the childhood me and the adolescent me have little to do with the me that I am now, yet I'm still one person.

so yeah, a few improvements would be much appreciated, I'd see it as an upgrade of sorts.

If I could change something about myself, it would be to upgrade my mental acuity. All the psych meds I take have done some damage. It would be nice to have a mind like a steel trap. Nowadays, my mind is more like a set of old lady's dentures.

I have accepted and grown to live with my many flaws and personal failings. In some cases, these flaws are but the flip side of some of my most treasured attributes. So there are some areas where I may need help, or where I will never succeed as well as others do. That's OK. That's part of what makes me me.

Hell yes I would!! !

Me too.

Honestly, I don't much get the selfhood thing, if I could be better than I am, then I would go for it, it would depend on the outcome though, if changing my personality I become a 'monster' then I would have to say no, otherwise, with a positive outcome, I would say yes.
