Oh, this is so so so cool. One Tuesday, Jan 6, when I started this thread, the name count on the petition was 6,827.
It had been gaining maybe 5 or 10 signatures a week for along time. Today, right now, the count is 7,312. That's
a gain of 485 signatures in two days!! Yeah!! I don't know for certain that my posts (I've sent the info to other
places besides this forum) can be credited with the sudden increase, but I like to think so.

Tell your friends they don't want to miss out on being part of this -- sign the petition now!!

Now the count is 7,471. At this rate we'll hit 8,000 by dinner.

And the SOA/ Fort Benning is what exactly?

edit: Post google... SOA trains foreigners in American military style, and that makes it a School For Assassins?

Amnesty International wrote:
For example, in September 1996 the US Department of Defense released evidence that the US-run School of the Americas for Latin American officers had used so-called "intelligence training manuals" between 1982 and 1991 that advocated execution, torture, beatings and blackmail. The US manuals, written in Spanish, were used to train thousands of Latin American security force agents. Copies of these manuals were distributed in Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru and Guatemala. No US laws were broken in the preparation, distribution and use of these materials. As a result no one has been held accountable for the development and use of the manuals. Indeed US officials even refused to discipline those responsible for producing or using these manuals on the grounds that there was no "deliberate attempt to violate" US policy.

From this source.

Does that not mean that ALL American military officers are trained to be cruel murdering bastards with no respect for human rights, as they have the same training too?

If you are right, if US officers do get the same training, it is worrying. But perhaps you noticed there is no claim that ALL officers trained in the School of the Americas took part in human rights violations. I have only seen claims that many SOA graduates have been found to have done so, and that part of the training encourages them. That is a different claim from the one you make.

As I understand it, foreign officers trained at the School of the Americas go through a
different training course than regular US military personnel. The SOA training is tailored
by the CIA, so the foreign officers are taught to target civilian educators, labor union organizers, journalists, and
peace workers in general (clergy and lay.) Anything that helps a government friendly to big US corporate interests
to stay in power.

Petition count is now 7935 - maybe 8,000 by lunchtime?
