Outside of the West there is much to look down upon.

Congratulations, you have demonstrated that both sides are wrong and contain more than their fair share of abominable monsters. I don't really give a damn anymore who's right or wrong, who started it, or any of the rest. It's a mess, and both sides have plenty to answer for.

Now, how do we prevent the further shedding of human blood?

Screw it... it's a lost cause... let them fight it out to the last man in their own little world they've made and leave the rest of us out of it...

If a few innocents get caught up in the fray, oh well, that's just the cost of peace in our lifetime...

The difference is in proportion - the Palestinian bombs kill relatively few Israeli civilians. An example of whats called 'asymettrical warfare'

Not for lack of trying- sucking at warfare doesn't make the Palestinians morally superior.

I tend to agree, however the issue goes back to the dispossession of the Palestinians and then the continual theft of UN mandated Palestinian land by the Israelis, any solution will have to in some way redress these issues

If Hamas shelled a few military targets, they would probably retain the moral high ground

But they never do, do they? They aim for undefended civilian areas. Terror is their game, not military victory. When the Hamas thugs hide behind baby cribs and the Israelis have shoot through the cribs to defend themselves, the world seems to ignore just who is to blame for the death of the babies. The blame is squarely on Hamas. They put the babies at risk in the first place.

Everything in this conflict, and this region, is an instrument of war. The battle between the Israelis and Palenstinians is fought in the media, schools, religion, web sites (Israeli and Palestinians hacking each other's web sites); everywhere there's a way to fight, you'll find them fighting there.

btw - I think all the Israeli ordinance, save the Uzi, is American-made. Just in the interest of seeing us as the axle of evil..

You DO know that US soldiers wrote condescending messages on bombs destined for the Taliban? The custom is pretty much universal-where do you think a saying "there's a bullet with your name on it" came from? I bet that Hamas has kids writing messages on Qassam rockets. Human beings love to kill each other, and Jews are no different. It's kinda amusing how people degrade Jews for not being superhuman just because they say God likes them. Every other tribe says the same thing.

I say that there is no God, therefore this nonexistent sky fairy doesn't know love or hate or any other emotion, therefore Jews just believe in a silly myth, like backwoods rednecks in the US believe in their silly myth. For some reason, humans want to slaughter each other over silly myths, and even worse they want to drag those of us who say that's a silly myth and you're a moron into the killing spree. If you want to die for a sky pixie fine, but don't make me die for your sky pixie. I have things that I would die for. Fairies are not on the list. Sorry.

What would you die for?

The babies are at risk because the adults around them are intent on killing each other. If both sides are doing horrible things, how can the blame be squarely on Hamas? Or Israel, for that matter? I think your emotional involvement with this conflict has biased your perception of it.

Civilian targets serve as greater demoralizers, do they not?

This is nothing new.

I've spent a little time in western Europe, and watched television there. I saw more images and shows there than I've ever seen in the US on how Americans are fundamentalist snake handlers; are wandering around in the Nevada desert going to legal brothels and waiting for flying saucers and aliens to beam them up and perform experiments on them; and that Americans support the Ku Klux Klan. One fellow I met, in a laundry in the city of Groningen in the Netherlands actually said to me - "You're American, you hate blacks."

Imagine the world's surprise when the US elected Obama.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is tragic. But in the United States, we rarely see images like were shown at the beginning of this thread. The US is a very big country, and just because there are (proportionally) a few of extremists who post images like that, doesn't mean that those images make it to the broader public. It seems that when images are posted anywhere by anyone in the US that make Palestinians look like terrorists, it is a natural (but inaccurate) assumption that all Americans actually see the images and believe them.

They actually have a very active native small arms industry, most of what they get from us is aircraft. They were subject to an arms embargo for years, so it was in their best interest to develop local arms supplies. Israel Military Industries is the main company, and they do so much business that they manufacture on contract for other countries, including the USA.
