QFT. That's just why I was annoyed the presence of Rick Warren, someone who actively campaigns against basic civil liberties. Someone like that should not have been selected to bless (someone who I hope will be) the People's champion.

On that note, I thought we signed a treaty explicitly stating that we are not a Christian nation. The two Christian ministers that led us in prayer during the Inauguration seems to bring the truth to a lie. (though I had no problem with the benediction - I liked that guy and his speech was universal)

Rick Warren sounds fake to me. It's weird, he plays it up so much that I have to doubt he even believes in what he says he believes.

Overall, I found Obama's speech very boring. I'm glad for him being elected and finally inaugurated though.

My thoughts exactly!

The separation of church and state is rarely, if ever, upheld. I would have thought having a president who isn't the "rich white man" stereotype would have helped to solve this problem. Oh well, I guess there's still hope that the next four years will change this.

Here in Britain, I don't think we really have the separation of church and state in so many words, but we should do. The monarchy are hindering this.

You're right - my bad. In my haste I was confusing first and middle name.

Barack is apparently derived from a Hebrew word meaning lightening (very loose translation, as is anything from Hebrew to English).

Hussein is a common name of Arabic nobility. It would seem that Hussein in the Eastern world is a lot like John in the Western.

Either way, I'll state again; I admire the man (as much as I can make myself admire a politician) without regard to race and heritage. Beyond that, the fact that his skin color and name twist the panties of the far right is just a really, really amusing bonus for me.

I admire Barack Obama as well, as do many Canadians. Right now, our elected leader is not very exciting. Stephen Harper has neither the personal charisma nor the oratory skills nor the personality to be noteworthy IMO. Canadian politics, with a few exceptions, are pretty GD dull. Jean Chretien, our former PM, at least he was amusing. A lot of Canadians feel like Barack is our president as well. :lol:

The US signed and ratified the Treaty of Tripolis, 1797, which states in Art. XI:

Give the US-Constitution in Art. VI, Paragraph 2: "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding." It is clear that the US are not a Christian nation - at least legally.

Actually Obama got a majority of his campaign money from donations from people who supported him. The lobbyists are people who want polices made in their interests which has effected the US Government in policy making a good bit. They have an influence on the government in the end.
