You are arguing from negation which is nonsense. Produce some ghosts and faeries for us to prod and measure and we maybe can prove they exist.

Your "argument" is like saying: "Prove that Elvis isn't reborn and living on Pluto where he eats cream doughnuts all day and plays the trombone all night".

Don't you ever get tired of arguing from a standpoint of ignorance?

You can't prove a negative; therefore, only those who assert a positive claim are burdened with providing any proof. If you can prove that magic exists - with a repeatably verifiable demonstration - then I will believe. Until then, asserting a claim of anything related to the "paranormal" or metaphysics is a de facto assertion of delusional or deceptive claim.

Do people get tired of arguing at all?

People here are demonstrating beliefs as well as posibilities and not necessarily claiming facts, and that is something to make note here, I can say that most people who post about these things may be very aware of the nature of empiricism, which is your claim used in your rants about these themes many times, I can say they sort of keep an open mind about paranormal activity or events labeled as paranormal, wether evidence is present or not, which is not the issue when considering and imagining few aspects of the unknown, which seems attractive for some and find them just interesting, as noted before, people have different perspectives on reality, I don't think all who you argue against to be dogmatic about paranormal, and not all people are empirical reductionists either, not dogmatic about it either, which that itself seems problematic.

well, claiming certainty from just a single (personal) perspective and comming up as the judge of truth and facts, the term "delusional" would fit in this case very well, even though the term used in such cases is invalid, which is funny when used to support science and logic, which becomes ironic.

By the way, I am skeptic.

What spirits? The only spirits there are, live up in our heads as neural activity.

I am talking about according to the beliefs of pagans.

Meh, i believe in it, why not? Science isn't as perfect as the humans who create it. There is often bound to be some things that we cannot explain by pure logic and deduction. Every way of thinking has its limits, science is mostly used because it is a useful tool. If we are smart, we won't turn it into a dogma that it is the penultimate way of seeing the world and that all others are void, doing so would be no different than going back to the middle ages and proclaiming religion is the only way. <.<

So you just submit to ignorance? That seems silly to me. Understand this: Science isn't perfect, but it's the most correct way we have to understand the world around us. Granted, our means of observation aren't fault-free, but it's really the only thing we can rely on. I mean, the world might be destroyed and recreated every thursday by a cat, it's just that noone notices. We might be brains in a vat for all I care. But the bottom line is that science is the most reliable way of observing reality we have. Do you know why science is a useful tool? It actually yields results, which beliefs cannot substantiate.

I believe in ghosts, and no-one can make me believe otherwise. why?
My gran died when I was very little. She died of lung cancer (she was a chain smoker :S, she got through 80 a day) ever sionce then, my grans urn keeps moving around the glas shelf on the wall. my grandad, convinced it kept moving, marked it with a red mark using a marker. The next day it had moved one centimeter. It keeps moving, and my grandfather cannot reach the shelf without help (he is very old) from the people who take care of him (he lives in an apartment block 'home' for stable independant seniors). They have to get a stepladder and do it themselves now, as his back is really bad. Its still moving, and has been for years.
So, let science give me an infallible explaniation and ruin my beliefs huh?
Nobody has been able to so far.

Magic is real. Love is magic, and so is the soul. If your a christian you believe in magic, as well as any other worldwide religon. The world without any magic at all would be a very dim and frightful place.

It is this sort of thing that gives people a belief in magic instead of logic. I would expect that if the urn was monitored with a video surveillance system the urn would either not move, or move in predictable ways e.g. when someone slammed a door which made a vibration in the wall which made the urn move on the slippery glass surface. The shelf may not be exactly level either which could aid its movement in such circumstances. Typically when such events are monitored in a controlled scientific way the causes tend to be very mundane.

As for the world being a dim and frightful place without magic, the real word and science have their own beauty without need for fantasy. The more science penetrates into the true nature of reality the more profound, fascinating and beautiful the world reveals itself to be.

Stick with your delusions of religion or magic though if it makes you feel happier. Don't let reality spoil it for you.

^ Hear! Hear!

Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?

Science has been wrong before and still will be. Scientists are still finding new species and have found animals later once thought extinct. So how can science be the only measure one uses to determine truth when I suppose you would say its' truth is relative.

Do I believe?
Yes as I've seen a ghost and no could not measure and did not want to get close enough to touch it. It's perfectly fine with me if I never see another one of those sickly green and transparent figures again in my life. Unfortunately I I have yet to see an angel, but know a pastor who had a son that did and a pastor from Africa that has.

As for magic just ask any missionary that has been to another country and they will account the most unbelievable things they have encountered and seen. I believe our Western minds have become too rationale in some ways...

So do I. I once had to spend a weekend in Provincetown Massachessets on business.
