Yeah, like, I remember this from the time I tried to self-study for the AP comparative government exam. Didn't do to well, as I got a 3. One of my study books openly admitted that it was outdated if Vicente Fox managed to get into power. Good times though, as I didn't have to go to class because of this.

I wish I'd done comparative government; there's a cool poli sci class I'd like to take that requires as a pre-req something that comparative gov would have gotten me. And the test shouldn't have been too horrible, as I remember the American government test being one of my three easiest AP exams- it basically felt like a vocab test.

It's not terrible, I just put the least emphasis on it, and had rather weak study material.

Does that mean that Obama is awesomely glorious for merely being Obama?

Merci. I thought people not as familiar with the origins of the quote would take it to be a racial slur, so I altered it slightly. But the principle stands, political parties are fluid in my eyes.

Obama is a moderate. He is going to do things I like, and things I don't like. The Krugman wing of the party doesn't like his economic policy. The civil libertarians don't like his stand on FISA and copyright treaties. The NORML crowd wants marijuana fully legalized, but Obama has no intention of doing that. The anti-nuke crowd doesn't like the fact that new nuclear plants will be permitted by the federal government. The PETA crowd doesn't like the fact that research using animals will continue, and I predict that meat will still be legal for the next 4 (or 8) years. Gays want an end to 'dont ask, dont tell' (might happen) and a presidential push for federal recognition of gay marriage (won't happen). Some liberals want gun control, but no indication that will happen either.

Obama, like Clinton, will play the triangulation game and try to basically govern from the center. I am ok with that basic strategy, even though I will not get everything I want. It is better than the Republican strategy of using wedge issues to divide the country, and push it to the far right.

Wow. I'll be polite, and leave it at that.
