Interesting. Do you mean that agnosticism is not a religion because agnosticism is a philosophic opinion based upon what you know, whereas religion is based upon belief and has no element of knowledge comes into it?

I must admit I have never been able to get my head around belief in the religous sense. There are things I take to be true. There are things I take to be false. And there are things I am not sure about. Religious people usually agree God must fall into the third category yet act in every other reguard as though he actually falls into the first.

Is this what belief is? Most people are fairly clear on these issues in relation to almost everything, except God. I do not see why an exception should be made in relation to God.

I voted wiccan, but I am oh so close to being a atheist, but the only reason that I am not one is because I have no idea on what happens after I die.

Bill Mahr said it best, I am not a atheist because it mirrors the certainty that religion has, be can't know what happens after we die.

I am a weak atheist. While God, Brahma, Allah, J-hw-, Jupiter, the FSM or Emacs might exist, it is very, very unlikely.

We CAN'T? Hmm, well you can be relatively sure you will be buried if you write that in your testament.

Joking aside, there is nothing that shows we have a 'soul' or some other abstract thing, in fact everything points to the opposite.

When I measure the force that the weight of an object with the mass of 1 kilogram, I know that unless the dynanometer is faulty it will how approximately 9.8 Newton. There is no religious dogma in that.

Western Christianity should have been split along the lines of mainstream and fundamentalist (and possibly including Roman Catholic as another group...)

In any case, I'm a Presbyterian, and a fairly moderate one at that... I laugh at young-earth creationists as much as the next guy...

There are a lot of divisions:
Fundamentalist
Mainstream
Liberal
Pentacostal
Emergent

Also, Eastern Orthodox was ignored on the poll.

I am strongly atheist regarding any of the theistic religions on offer today. I am agnostic however about deistic or pantheistic notions of God. However, as these do not impact day to day life, I can effectively say I am atheist.

I'm an atheist. There is a tiny possibility God might exist and we will probably never know, but it seems such a minor and unimportant distinction to me I just call myself atheist rather than agnostic. I assume that God does not exist. Culturally I am Christian (Anglican), to the extent that I celebrate Christmas and Easter, but that is tradition and not my actual beliefs.

I am Jewish and I remain so. Why? Because of the ethical content of the religion, mostly. Also, since I was brought up in the culture I am very comfortable in the company of other Jews. We share a world-view, a sense of humor and most important of all, a history.

One interesting aspect of being Jewish is that one can be quite religious (I am not all that observant myself) and still be a critical thinker. Judaism is a religion where one is not encouraged to park his brains outside the synagogue before entering. In fact, one is very encouraged to question and clarify his religious thinking.

nihilists don't vote, they are out building death rays. Or already dead.

But I agree its funny when they sometimes list "humanist" and not "misanthrope". Misanthropes might lack the literature but their hearts are in the right place.

I was raised Southern Baptist but once I got smart enough to think for myself, I could no longer believe in religion though I still believe a higher power does exist. Some look at it as "How do you know God exists?" whereas I ask "How do you know God doesn't exist?" But I know now that religion often contradicts itself and is just loony in some parts. So I picked Spiritual but not religious.

I've always been curious about this. I mean, even though we have no evidence for aliens, there is a possibility (perhaps a rather large one) that they do exist, based on what we now about biology. But god (and please stop capitalizing the G)? That's preposterous.

And how do you know the universe isn't just a figment of your imagination?
