more people have died in the name of a pacifist (Jesus) then for any other reason. Do your religion proud, go kill a gay jew in the name of the god of love, because your holy book says so!

I know that when I look within my own heart, I can see many things wrong that need to be made right. And I know that many religious people can easily fall into the trap of using their religion to rationalize anything that they say or do. I think many people have always used there beliefs in the supernatural to justify their acts of violence and aggression.

But I also believe that atheism, which is the belief system that provides the foundation for the present world philosophy, is responsible for a lot more violence and aggression than religion. Stalin and Mao Tze Tung are just a couple of examples of atheists who have killed millions upon millions of people.

^- In response to Jetlag, do we need to mention the church's inquisition? The extermination of indigenous people in America? The Dark ages which kept science in the back and "could" have saved more people from simple diseases and traumas had it been allowed? the Crusades? <.<

There's no right or wrong when it comes to religion or atheism, both have had their fair share of blood.

yes but no one has do so in the name of atheism, its been done in the name of poltics, which is very different. No one has ever killed in the name of atheism, they have killed in the name of communism, capitilism, etc.

The actions of the adherents of a certain philosophy does in no way validate or debunk it, BTW.

The bible is a story book about human people. Which is why it is full of sex and violence.

I agree. The Good Christians know that God doesn't like that.
I'm not saying this about all atheist but I have meet and heard of many that where just mean and horrible people out to destroy religion. Now again I'm not saying this about all atheist there are nice and tolerant ones out there.
The ones that destroy need to be defeated and stop them from destroying religion.
Many have killed Christians and it makes me wonder why they would want to kill people who normally do good things and hold no ill will.

Any consideration of history will reveal that the murderous inclinations of humanity have been exercised by both religious and non-religious leaders equally as forcefully and the motivation for the violence has not been religious but a raw struggle for political power.
