I have a question: Why are they using the second person familiar form? Isn't it considered insulting de se tutoyer in these circumstances?

Why don't they use the formal form:

"Soyez Belle et Votez"

It is meant to be informal.

Like directly adressing to the person, using "soyez" would be more formal.

Otherwise, i don't know, but i suppose they wanted to create a sense of direct contact with the reader.

That works more in Spanish than in French. French people are much more formal.

Swedish would be at the opposite end of formality--the "du" form is much more common in speech. For example, a French student would never use the familiar form with a teacher, but a Swedish student would.

To my understanding, using the familar form in French would be more insulting. You would use the familiar form to talk to a small child, a pet, possibly a fellow student, a spouse, a lover, a family member, or a very very close friend.

see..our media is so out of touch, my first thought was 'hey, you can see her hair'...and figuring they'd be looking for the artist...and they wouldn't be happy about it. Hezbollah signed off on this?

shows what I don't know...i 'spose.

I think it's the opposite of sexist, because it's saying that women don't have to shut up, we should vote and make our voice heard. That's what I interpret it as, anyway.

Well, about the fromality between teacher and students, i suppose that would be right, but if the teach is ok with a bit of familiarity (like calling him by his name without the mr. title) or "tu" (i'll admit that's very rare). Well i don't see much difference. But meh, off-topic, let's get back to it... Any news ever since the ad and reactions?
