Just the Quran. Not the hadiths.

Yes, I'm sorry. I stand corrected.

It is good to be wrong sometimes. Makes you humble. :)

You have child soldiers today, it doesn't mean that they're mature enough to be soldiers, just that they were coerced into it by circumstance. Children being expected to do adult things does not make adults out of them.

This. One only has to look at the Lords Resistance Army, the Chadian, Congolese and Sudanese Armies, the FML, Somalian militias, Hamas and other terrorist organisations...

A bloody, brutal, despicable calumny on humanity.

Here's your answer:

it wasn't for lust. it wasn't for physical desires. It was for something much greater, and that is the narration of 2,000 <hadiths narrated by her alone.

You seriously believe this, right?

You must keep in mind that I used to be an apologist myself (albeit for Christ and the Bible), and I had to do a lot of mental gymnastics and resort to intellectual dishonesty in order to defend certain views that I now see as atrocious.

This man has it about right. You should listen to him.

If you actually seriously thought about your actual beliefs in day to day life compared with your religious beliefs, you will - or should - find an enormous cognitive dissonance and I'm afraid, with the best will on Allah's earth I can't help you with that. You have to purge it yourself.

I'm sorry for you, salad. It won't be easy.

What I find really interesting are the replies in that thread.

Check this for example:

Quote:
If someone asked you verbally if Muhammad Sallallhu 'alayhi wa sallam married a 6yr old and consumated the marriage when she was 9 I doubt you would be able to say the above.

This is one area I would struggle if someone asked but I would just say yes Muhammad Sallallhu 'alayhi wa sallam did, and one thing you have to remember is Muhammad Sallallhu 'alayhi wa sallam was unlike me and you - even you would have gave your daughter in marriage.

Notice how he realizes it's a tough cookie to defend, but he uses special pleading anyway because Mohammed, after all, is an elevated exception to the rule, and therefore not in submission to that user's moral standards.

You can tell how dangerous such a way of thinking could be.

Yup. Muhammad is a special exception to the general rule, but all Muslims must follow the example of Muhammad.

Erm...? Help me?

No wonder the Islamic holy texts are a mess.

Written by a six year old. Dearie me.

I could actually believe that. It's less insane than some of the other points associated with the religion.

Hang on, though - I thought best buddykins Mo was told it all?
Was it written in Crayola?

^ That was infantile, but pretty funny. I love the way it seemed to be in Arabic. Someone's spoiling for a fight there. Chef Excellence would be pleased.

she was 9 and older. also her iq>>>>>>mine and yours put together. deal with it. if she memorized 2000 hadiths by memory that obviously means her intellect far outshines yours by miles. the muslims during that time were non savants with savant skills - they weren't savants, but being able to memorize 10,000 hadiths when you're 10 (imam bukhari), memorize the quran at 4 (many young muslims at that time) and other feats obviously proves her intellect was greater than yours. who cares how old she was. jake barnett, child prodigy, is editing einsteins theory of relativity and he's only 12. pocahantas was an ambassador at age 11. usama ibn zaid lead the greatest muslim army against the byzantine at age 17. age is irrelevant., considering how people not even 1/3 your age can outsmart the both of us any day, week and year and have talents me and you would only dream of. the arabs were brilliant in memory, considering how in arabic certain words have hundreds of variations. e.g. the word lion has 800 variations.

i believe it because that IS the reason why he married Aisha. denial won't help you. if he really was a man of lust then why were almost all his wives OLD WIDOWS?? Muhammad PBUH was 25 and in the prime of his youth, the most handsome man in arabia, and the strongest, yet you know who he chose as his wife?? Khadija, a twice widowed woman who was 40, 15 years older than him, even though all the most beautiful and young virgin women could have married him, but instead he chose khadja and married only her until she died. infact he even said the only woman he married out of love was khadija (he loved his other wives but he never married them out of love). that pretty much demolishes the muhammad married for lust bandwagon. he only remarried after khadija died, but before that the only woman he loved was khadija and he remained faithful towards her until she died. coincidence?? i don't think so. why do you think Aisha was so jealous of khadija. that leads to my second my point. why was aisha jealous?? it was because he loved khadija more than her. in other words, she loved Muhammad PBUH so much that she was angry that there was someone that he loved more than her. she used to ALWAYS ask him who he loved the most and she would be delighted whenever he said aisha. she even bragged about it to the other wives. so much for aisha not wanting to marry him. it seems more like it was an honor for her to marry him.
