Part of the reason I decided to become an organ donor is not just so I can save someone's life but so that maybe a part of me will continue to live in somebody else so that maybe my life will be prolonged a little longer in a way

bloodbank told me "no thanx" because my blood is considered substandard. I wonder if they'll take a look at my organs when i'm laid open on the slab, and also say, "Nah....."

Good point. I can't donate blood because of my stroke and I have an iron disorder. Hmmm. Oh well, I'm an organ donor nonetheless. They can figure it out.

once my spirit was safely ensconced on the astral plane, I would not mind if they used my body to feed animals, convert me into soylent green or such.

I could be a human sacrifice and offer myself to save humanity. That actually would make me feel better about dying knowing that at least I saved other people.

Heaven's probably worth only limited excitement, the rest of the world believes in it too but just not in the Judao-Chistian eternal paradise, it's closer to another sheet of shadows slightly brighter than the one we're in, as beautiful as anything someone describes in NDE's (luminous light, beautiful golden-transleucent cities, etc.), but it's just another bend in the long-term oscillation of a natural process and it's nothing like a finish line.

There are crystal cat-lady new agers who believe nuts stuff as well, and don't get me started on attempts to politicize science (like Gad Saad's favorite - feminist glaciology).

For some reason this makes think of a quote from The Golden Girls when Rose was talking about her opinion of heaven.

Rose: "You know Sophia I always thought that there would be a Catholic heaven with nuns and priests and churches, and a seperate Protestant heaven with people and cows and horses, and then a Jewish heaven with libraries and furriers"

Sophia: "You're starting to annoy me you shouldn't annoy a sick person!"

I think I might actually be more agnostic than truly atheist.

I don't think any religous teachings have all the answers about what really happens to us after death. Maybe they're all right in some way? And maybe they're all wrong?

I personally think it would nice if everybody continued to exist after death. Even the ones who do terrible things.

But how can you think when your brain is dead?

I guess I'm in the minority. One of the things I would still like to do in the life after is have a beautiful partner and a family like life in the 1950's. I do have a fear of being a single virgin for the rest of my life perhaps without "what it takes" to even get one date at all. (Strike: I just might actually be able to date and have a shorter-term relationships, but the way families and reproduction is becoming obsolete is sad)

But I'm only told I'm not being "spiritual" or "humble" enough.

Well people who are religous or spiritual believe that a person's soul or spirit is seperate from their brain or any other part of their body. It's supposed to be the embodiment of who they were as a person on the inside.

It's kind of like how in some cultures the caterpillar represents the "mortal body", when they become a cocoon that symbolizes "death" because they are completely still and unable to move, and then once they emerge as a beautiful butterfly that represents the "soul". A beautiful being that emerges after the process of death and flies away to make a journey.

So where do people keep their soul or spirit, if not in their brain or body?
