Isn't the statement "Any positive belief should have some sort of rationale." a positive belief? What is the rationale?

Does religion really have communal benefits? It does if you belong to that particular group. Otherwise it is a source of considerable division.

Well, yes, but people of religion are a part of their religious group.

The idea that we should follow a religion to "please" god is frankly absurd. God hasn't seemed to mind when people murder in his name all over the world.

Well, if religious people love God, then following to please God makes sense. I was really thinking more in terms of getting godly goodies though than pleasing for the sake of pleasing.

In any case, I find him an interesting source of comic relief. I just can't take someone seriously if they b***h about "maths" vs "math" and call people out for saying favor rather than favour, but can't keep their own posts clear of basic spelling and grammatical errors that are wrong regardless of which dialect of English is used.

You know, it could be some master-plan prank that he's trying to pull off. Nobody can trip so laughably into their own logical holes.

But let me say this, if it is a prank, I would totally buy him a beer.

This is my concept of a discussion on religion:

Atheist make irrefutable demand for evidence.

Theist states he does not need evidence or reason to hold a belief.

Atheist questions this.

Theist provokes hositility with patronising and false pity.

Atheist respond angrily.

Theist continues insults and mockery.

Theist asks for discussion to cease.

They are both at fault but the theist has intentionally derailed the discussion and bears primary responsibility for this failure.

Some of you need to grow up and study elementary debating technique. Ad hominem are the last resort of the scoundrel.

It does give an insight into your political beliefs however. But seems to be irrelevant in this context.

You won't get much true insight without asking me about my political beliefs to be honest. I have adapted my beliefs a lot to be honest.

For what it's worse, I'm glad you're here, iamnotaparakeet. You are one of the voices of reason on this humorously disheveled thread.

Look, I am fine leaving this thread. I just don't want it to close down against the wishes of the other people here. I know that some people are extracting some joy out this madness-fest.

If they care to have a real conversation, then removing the incendiary comments interspersed within posts might be a good place to start. Otherwise, this thread should go.

I believe in the value of logic and reason because I am not insane. I consider those who do not follow logic to be behaving in an insane and irrational way.

If logic has no value, then science would have no worth. Or results.

Science has results.

Religion has never demonstrated results that are measurable.

first i'll answer you pathetic later post. You people attacking me should be banned for cyber-bullying. I'm an easy target right?

Myself, Phagocyte, AG, Twoshots, and several other well-established regulars are going to be banned because of you? I somehow doubt it.

Actually, I think you may be getting reported for those last insults. Your obviously very upset.

Unless you choose to report an insult, the mods will ignore it. And if you do choose to do so, the best possible result for you is mutually assured destruction.
