Right because having complaints about how the Government is managing your money means you belong in a lawless s**thole

Yes let's tax small business owners more and more, because they are evil... Most of these millionaires you are babbling about, own businesses that hire people, while I know democrats want a dependence society where everyone is depending on tidbits the ruling class throw to them, most of America finds that "utopia" to be sickening.

(Sigh) No one said small business owners were evil. And I think Bill Clinton demonstrated that businesses could pay taxes, and still hire people. And in closing - Democrats do not want everyone to be dependent on the government; they just want those programs to be available to those people who need a helping hand. And beside, Democrats want most people to work, because that way there would always be enough money to fund those social programs.

Do you even pay taxes? Reason we complain, is cause we pay taxes and are disgusted with how government is being irresponsible with our money. It is our right to be able to voice our ire about it, and if you have a problem with that, how about you move to North Korea or Syria.

Oh, stop. What taxes do you pay?

In comparison, have you received any form of government run education or college grants/subsidized loans? Driven on any roads? Gone to a park or a library? Enjoyed services like clean water (this one's gone a bit downhill - but it certainly could be worse) or 911. Mailed a letter? Flown safely in a airplane? Utilized the courts?

I bet if you stop and think about it, you've received way more in benefits than you've made in contributions.

There's nothing wrong with voicing concern. There is something wrong with throwing a 'taxes are bad' blanket over everything without acknowledging the many ways in which we all benefit. A more sensible approach would be to single out the specific areas of waste and work towards better efficiency.

As did Dwight David Eisenhower. And Ronald Reagan, for that matter. Taxes under the Obama administration are at the lowest level they've ever been in post-war American history, and we can see what it's done for our economy and job growth.

Fun fact: the largest peacetime tax hike in American history was signed into law by Ronald Reagan. Inuyasha, I will wait for the cognitive dissonance to make your head explode.

This is exactly what ruveyn said a couple of posts ago.

This has become such a generic argument that people can say the exact same thing, yet still disagree with each other.

"Some taxes are good, some taxes are bad."

"No no no, you've got it all wrong, some taxes are bad, some taxes are good."

"No, you've got it backwards."

"No, you have it backwards."

I really don't know why neo-cons love Reagan so much. He was a massive spender and he even supported the Assault Weapons Ban.

Well, neo-cons (those pushing for an aggressive, interventionist foreign policy) have every reason to approve of Reagan. He expanded military spending with wasteful projects like Star Wars and he engaged in any number of legally and morally dubious military adventures, such as covert assistance to guerrilla fighters in Afghanistan, the Iran-Contra scandal, etc. Neo-conservatives do not regard fiscal policy, the deficit, or domestic policy in general as top priorities. The really baffling thing is why libertarians and so-called "fiscal conservatives" seem to worship Reagan as a god. Of course, the answer is simple: they are utterly ignorant of his actual record. It's just astounding that an entire movement can remain so willfully ignorant of basic facts.

An old Russian joke- "Capitalism is the system of man oppressing man. Under Communism it is just the other way around."

I understand that they think it's justified because of the Cold War and the fact that neo-cons are interventionists, but Eisenhower handled it a lot better without the tax hiking and the massive defense budget. He stockpiled on nukes, but he also cut everything else in the defense budget and kept a balanced budget overall. Reagan OTOH funded nun raping far right scumbags and blew a whole lot of money on that Star Wars crap. But yeah it still amazes me that libertarians and fiscal conservatives love the dude. Massive inconsistency there.

I like the irony in the thread title and OP; presuming that aspies would default to liberalism because it's in their personal self interest to do so. So, a conservative aspie must be thinking of the greater good when they choose that ideology because it doesn't make sense any other way? Needless to say I'm certain that our board liberals would vigorously contest this interpretation, but it was a ridiculous question in the first place.

Another possibility being that conservative Aspies are unaware of their self-interests or falsely think an extra few pecentile points on the upper income bracket is going to drastically affect them.

That's what I said, buddy. Conservative aspies believe they have a chance to get a stake in the status quo and make it to the top and when they do they want to enjoy their privilege.

Explains why over half of millionaires in the US are 1st generation...

Seriously, it's more of I don't believe in punishing someone just because they are successful. They earned their money, it's their money not yours.

What exactly do you mean by "earned"? If you mean they worked hard and are enjoying the fruits of their labor then I call malarkey. You cant get rich by working for someone else! You have own PROPERTY(and/or capital).
Most wealthy people(as in a net worth of $1 Million or more)make their money from investments, rather than from earning a salary. Capitalism really doesn't reward those who play fair or even those who work hard, it rewards those who are opportunistic and cheat other people out of their hard earned money so that THEY can get it instead.

Investments go into providing capital that allow businesses to hire people. The retirees were invested in the stock market with their 401k's and some of them got out of the market before it went belly up. How is someone that worked at a business for 30+ years that retired and is now a millionaire because they did well with their investments, evil?

You guys need to learn to stop buying into the Democrat talking points of the only way someone can be rich is if they are heartless scumbags.

Yes, and most right-libertarians like to claim that their mix of "social liberalism and fiscal conservatism" is so mind-blowing that the conventional left-right spectrum can't capture them, so they should be categorized based on stuff like the Nolan Chart.

I once called him "rightwing" and he got mad.

http://cdn.wrongplanet.net/postxf135705 ... 85fae52a5b

In that thread he puts me on the "left fringe of Wrong Planet", next to violent revolution advocate Xenon13. How he mixes reformist social democrats with solidly anti-capitalist Proletarian revolutionists is beyond me. He later backtracked, though, and said that the most people have too many different views to accurately categorize with the left-right spectrum.

 Way to completely miss the point, beside isn't that your exact opinion - that you're "too idiosyncratic" to be captured by the left-right spectrum?

Regardless, for someone who complains about people having a long memory, you sure don't seem to be letting go of the fact that I called you a "militia rightist" several months to a year ago. Which I did for a few reasons:

  • You used to have a picture of a man holding a gun with the custom rank "Ethical Aspie Assassin".
  • You posted a thread (that was subsequently taken down) about a system for killing bureaucrats via assassination.

Now, perhaps I jumped the gun ( :) ) in that assessment, but there was half-decent evidence at the time.

Dox47 wrote:
Really though, he's my biggest fan, notice the encyclopaedic knowledge of my posts, right down to the phrasing, I mean it's been at least a few months since I called this place an echo chamber.

Months ago you whined about me falsely attributing beliefs to you, mischaracterizing your views, and attributing particular statements via to a dead thread (the Assassination system one, which was deleted off the forum). So I carefully read your views and get the response that I'm "your biggest fan". It's an interesting scam you have here, deflection mechanisms at both points (reading you casually or reading you enough to thoroughly guage your views).

And the funny thing about the "echo-chamber" thing is that you said that in a thread where I was ARGUING AGAINST YOU. Of course, I'd probably reflect on that statement so as to verify whether it's a fair criticism and have compared WP to various other forums to see how fair an assessment that is.

Does he really not know that posting links to old quotes of mine doesn't help his cause here?

Or that people do change their opinions over time, and old statements may no longer even be relevant?

I don't think he particularly cares, because it fits into his narrative.

Doesn't matter, as most of my references to your past post either refer to past positions you still hold, past positions that explain why I have to cite your positions exactly, or are in acknowledgement that you "changed your mind" (i.e. backtracked).

It DOESN'T make them "evil", it makes them pretty damn Lucky! Most retirees aren't millionaires, and furthermore most millionaires made their fortune long before they retired. I am not trying to vilify the rich by any stretch of the imagination. What I'm saying is that it is not enough to succeed, others must fail. Capitalism is a zero-sum game.
