Word on the street is that it was a member of the audience, not the audience that booed.

As a matter of fact, there were news correspondents and even other Republican candidates who had conceded that there had been more than one person who had booed the serviceman - and that had been my perception, too.

Okay? Some does not equal most or all.

Furthermore, you are just speculating on the motivations of the people booing, I for one thought the question was out of line. People should not be advertising their sexual orientation while in the military.

A soldier who is fearful that he may someday lose his career if DADT is reinstated had every right to as this question, especially since most of the Republican candidates are giving in to homophobia. Remember, plenty of service personnel have been outed and kicked out of the military despite not advertising who they were.

And from my perspective, the audience members were booing the soldier.

I saw the vid of that. I heard a few yahoos booing that soldier and a lot more hisses from others in the crowd telling them to shut up.

Quote:
And not one Republican presidential candidate defended the soldier, who is currently putting his life at risk today, against the homophobic audience members.

I find this fact more problematic.

Kraichgauer, the problem with your statement is that you would be applying something retroactively, a law or regulation cannot be applied to someone whom did something before that regulation is enacted. Those that already let people know their sexual orientation in the Military are quite frankly immune from being kicked out of the military if DADT is put back into place.

And I honestly believe that the forces of homophobia would find a way to screw over this young soldier, and others like him.

That is possible, however unlikely unless they are running around everyday screaming that they are gay which the question would then become is it homophobia, or somebody waking up on the wrong side of the bunk and getting fed up with this guy yelling the same thing every day.

It's not a matter of gays screaming that they're gay, but rather that they can be who they are without being punished for it.
And as a matter of fact, a lady who attends my church, who is a non-commissioned officer, just told me today that she expects that there will be repercussions for gays in the military, despite the change in the law.

We could probably cut taxes down to near nothing, if we didn't have to pay for defense contractors to spread right-wing propaganda on the internet.

If you're going to make comments like that you should probably make sure you have your facts straight, entitlements are a larger chunck of the Budget than National Defense.
