As a philosophical point and NOT as a complaint about the mods...

I would not be one of those. I would be more like our beloved gladiator above.

It funny how you can review and cite specific quotes from specific posts, yet fail to see the overall pattern of humor and self deprecation in them.

Where you see a pattern of humour and self deprecation I see a pattern of having a persecution complex.

I am righteously outraged and offended that you dared to suggest that a person with an opinion different to yours was comparable to an act of genocide committed by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago.

Which probably demonstrates the problem with enforcing such a strict set of rules on a forum for political, philosophical and religious debate and using the ability of a person to be offended as a yardstick to judge moderation.

Here is another problem.

Pastafarianism, aka the church of the flying spaghetti monster has the same legal rights under freedom of religion laws in several countries that christianity has and yet it exists solely to ridicule religious extremism, specifically creationism.

To ban a pastafarian from ridiculing creationism is to infringe on their legally protected religious rights as the religion exists solely for that purpose. In a non perfect world where people disagree with each other perhaps the old way of drawing the line at hate speech was the best compromise?

The church of the flying spaghetti monster? That is so last decade...

Where is the history of it?
What was it's inspiration?
What is it's goal?
What is it's creed?
Who benefits from it?
What are is benefits?
What are it's drawbacks?

Careful, that is almost offensive.

We are talking about my faith here, which means I don't have to prove anything as everything I say is an article of faith. The onus is on you to disprove everything I say but any so called 'evidence' that you have that might contradict my faith has to be discounted because it is clearly wrong as it contradicts my faith thereby proving it is false 'evidence'. (Not to mention highly offensive. ;) )

It is the one true Truth.

It is the one true Truth.

And I can carry on my gas guzzling ways but still solve global warming by dressing like a pirate.

Nope. Just making the point that people can take offence at anything for any reason so it's bad idea for a neutral party to take personal offence as reason enough to act. To some people a class of children naming a teddy bear Muhammad is offensive enough to cause a riot, doesn't mean it is reasonable behaviour.

Hugs?

The above is what I call -- with precision -- "a damnable attitude".

The final question for you to ask in the quoted post is, "And why should God bother to save someone who would be as much of a jerk as I'm being to Him right now?" And the beauty of the question is that it answers itself.

Maybe you really can be so wilfully foolish that you can find your own way to Hell, while all the while Salvation is free.

It does say Hell is not made for man, but rather Lucifer and the fallen angels. I read that as immortal life in Paradise for all, but access to the Holy of Holys only for those of faith.

Here we have a christian 'damning' someone, with precision no less for their attitude.

And here we have a christian calling someone 'wilfully foolish'.

Doesn't this sort of undermine the concept of nice kind christians being constantly set up on by atheists hell bent on unfairly persecuting them for their beliefs?

How exactly is damning someone and calling them wilfully foolish any more or less offensive than the words delusional, ignorant or stupid?

Mods any comments? Or is the pot allowed to call the kettle black?

puddingmouse, I am sorry you had to read this, and I understand you might be offended by this. I think you have to make a thread stating how you had to leave because of Ragtime's complete refusal to take your question seriously and come back in a couple hours to reply here. This appeared to have helped some people post again on this forum.

Yep! I would much rather go to Hell than accept the terms of a being so obviously evil and tyrannical as God. Bring it on, Yahweh!

Oooooh, I'm so scared. :P

Even if Hell wasn't made for man, it was still made, presumably by the same guy who made everything else. He also made Lucifer and the fallen angels, with the foreknowledge that these angels would fall. What sort of being would do this? I don't think I need to answer that question.
