This might be a crazy question on my part, but are we certain that this picture is not a parody? I'm asking because I've looked up the "Beginner's Bible Coloring Book" on Amazon, and the art in that coloring book is consistent with the art in the other "Beginner's Bible" products. The art style in this image is very, very different from the Beginner's Bible Coloring Book https://www.amazon.com/Beginners-Bible-Coloring-Book/dp/0310759552.

(also, color names like "Omnipotent Yellow" seem kind of like a red flag)

Sometimes when something outrageous confirms our own beliefs, we may accept it too readily.

I used to be a Fundamentalist Christian, but I'm no longer Christian at all. But even when I attended Bible-Believing Christian Churches, I never saw anything like Jesus riding a dinosaur. I'm not saying that no Christians believe outrageous things, I'm just trying to figure out whether this is a real image or a parody.

There is an exhibit in the Creation Museum which shows humans and dinosaurs coexisting.

Yes, I've seen that before. I just don't think it helps us to post parody images as though they are real. The real images are bad enough and deserve criticism.

I’ve seen posters that a devout Christian has that showed Dino’s cohabiting with humans.
Some deny they existed and say that Satan spread those bones around to fool people.
Not all Christians of course.I live in the Bible Belt and some are nuts.
As in don’t get healthcare, pray to JEEESSUUSSS for healing!! ! If you die ,it was all part of God’s plan anyway.

Christians in European countries tend to be a lot more level-headed than a lot of bible belt, US Christians.

It is not uncommon to have simultaneous scientific & religious beliefs in Europe, at least.

The US seems to lack nuance in terms of people who swing one way or another, as a generalisation.

Yes. And that was the case like forty years ago in the US. You could be religious, and church going, and still take your kids to the Smithsonian to see the dinosaur bones from X number millions of years ago.

Pope John said that its "up to the individual Catholic which theory to believe...evolution or Creation", and as I understand it the Eastern Orthodox never got hysterical about Darwin and saw it as their job to save souls and not to dictate whats in a biology or geology text book. But with Protestants in the US it gets more and more polarized. You have to take Noah's Ark literally or be an atheist. And the more that Fundies double down with "Creation Museums" the more they alienate everyone except for a hard core of believers. Kinda like how Trump's convictions drive away some, and make others more fanatically loyal to the cult.

Yeah.

It is perfectly reasonable to believe dinosaurs existed tens or hundreds of millions of years ago, not to believe everything in the bible, and to have general Christian values and to identify as a Christian.

Like you have summarised, the US seems to have lost the plot, somehow.

Let’s not get too carried away. Most Americans don’t hold such extreme views, just a higher percentage than other English-speaking countries.

Again, I quote H. L. Mencken:

“There’s no underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”

IMNSHO, Mencken’s quote is even more relevant today.

But willful ignorance....

Ah that was the term I was searching for.
A simple example. When I was in primary school my classmates stuck their collective noses in the air when it came to learning about Asia or Africa. I recall even the smarty pants students would feign ignorance in class and pretend not knowing the answer to "What is the capital of Kenya" Or what is the staple crop of China". But then in the weekly tests they would get 10/10. I guess they didn't want to appear to the class like they cared about that stuff.

I suspect ignorance isn't just driven by religion.
