A large majority (80%) of Jewish Israelis support Israel’s attack on Iran, according to an Israel Democracy Institute poll released Thursday. A majority in favor of the attack holds across the political spectrum among Jewish Israelis.
very unfortunate, Israel's civilian population also seems to have become radicalised. Again Iranian civilians don't deserve to be bombed. I hope for their sake a swift resolution can be reached.
There have been four main turning points in this process.
The 1977 Menachem Begin became the first non Labor Party member elected Prime Minister. This was shift in political power from Ashkenazi Jews to Sephardic Jews that has continued until this day.
The Second Intifada followed the collapse of two state solution talks at the beginning of the 21st century. The Second Intifada involved several hundred suicide bombings aimed at civilian targets that killed over a thousand Israelis. Pretty much all the Israeli analysts I have listened to point to this event as the defining event in Israeli's giving up on peaceful co existence with Palestinians.
The full repercussions of October 7th are far from known. What can be said is that since then is any constraints about openly advocating for ethnic cleansing/genocide went by the wayside and that has been reflected in policy.
The election of Donald Trump expedited the process described in the last paragraph.
No civilians deserved to be bombed. That said
as of this writing the Israelis are not carpet bombing Iran like they did with Gaza. What they are doing is assassinating scientists involved in the Iranian nuclear program and key Iranian government officials. These are considered war crimes under international law.
