^ which would be stupid for at least two reasons:
1. Most of Kherson city is on the high bank and breaking the dam would flood mostly the East bank.
https://en-us.topographic-map.com/map-c ... 01&zoom=10
2. Destroying Kakhovka dam would make disappear the channel supplying Crimea with fresh water.

Not that Russians haven't done spectacularily stupid things in this war, though. Like starting it in the first place (though my personal favorite remains trenching in Red Forest). Maybe they are aiming at maximum damage, to hell with damaging themselves even more. If the plan is to make Ukraine blacked out for the winter, they may do it.

A friendship ‘without limits.’ This is how Russia and China described their relationship just weeks before President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. What Moscow thought would be a swift military operation has instead turned into a prolonged and gruesome conflict. Since then, Russia`s economy has been severely hit by Western sanctions, leaving Putin attempting to reaffirm existing alliances. But that is no easy task. While Chinese President Xi Jinping has refused to condemn the invasion, he`s also stopped short of helping Russia to circumvent sanctions. In this DW Business Special we discuss the complicated relationship between the two countries with Nina Khrushcheva, Professor of International Affairs from the New School in New York.

In #Ukraine's southern Kherson region, Ukrainian troops are making progress and the Russians fear a fresh rout. Behind the frontline, another force is at work alongside the Ukrainian army: the partisans. These #resistance fighters are able to strike behind enemy lines and provide valuable #intelligence to Ukrainian forces. Our reporter Gwendoline Debono went to meet some of the members of this shadow army, who are relentlessly hunted down by Russian troops.

Residents in the Russian-controlled city of Kherson in southern Ukraine are leaving after authorities ordered an “immediate” evacuation.

It comes after warnings of a looming Ukrainian counteroffensive to recapture the city.

However, one resident told Sky News that the evacuation is not designed for them, saying, “this is not a civilian evacuation,” as Sky's John Sparks explains.

This is a neat fundraiser:

https://uapostcards.org/product/kerch-bridge-on-fire/

No idea about the legitimacy of the charity or where money goes beyond the text I just read there that says they don't keep any money, it's all for Ukrainian war efforts. But regardless, kinda neat.

RE: The dirty bomb to garner world support against Russia.

Consider:
Russia is losing the war in Ukraine.
Why would Ukraine need to do something like this?

Conclusion:
Russian propaganda.

It has been exactly eight months since Russia launched a full-scale war in Ukraine, and Moscow has escalated its nuclear rhetoric. Russian officials are claiming that Ukraine is about to release radiation using a so-called ‘dirty bomb.’ As Nick Schifrin reports, international leaders are warning the allegation is actually a cover for Russia’s own plans.

Generally, odds for some kind of a nuclear disaster are high enough. Being uncomfortably close, we have a network of potassium iodine distribution already set up, just in case.

Kakhovka dam is potentially problematic in this region, too. It has been mined by Russians, probably back in the spring. If they blow it up now, they would flood large parts of Kherson region (the city would mostly survive, it's on the high bank), empty the channel supplying Crimea with fresh water and disable cooling of Zaporozhia Nuclear Plant.

I wonder if declarations that radioactive contamination of NATO countries would trigger art 5 are worth anything. I hope we don't find out.

In the second part of the program, we talk to Retired United States Air Force brigadier general Dr. Robert S.
