1 in 3 Americans Has Saved $0 for Retirement



There is more than a bit of victim blaming in this quote. The people who wrote this article must be those smug, self satistied people who yes were smart enought to save but also had the opportunity

When boomers started in the working world it was expected unless you were completly incompetent one job, one career, a house in the suburbs, and guaranteed retirement awaited you. You might have started out in the booming economy of the 60's and 80's and they not saved accordingly. Some of the early boomers had thier careers stalled and could not save because of the combination of double digit inflation and recession in the 70's.

In the 80's a cohort of the boomers became yuppies, and the stereotype of the ex radical who sold out and became selfish, hednistic taker stuck to entire generation. Meanwhile things were happening like the Savings and Loan crises, a wave of mergers and aquisitions, manufacting jobs going oversees meant the guaranteed job if you worked hard enough started to become a thing of past.

In the 90's the trends continued and despite an unprecedented economic boom in the last half of the 90's if you were not up on or able to have computer skills things or had social skills or did not use cooperate double speak language it was uncomfortable for you.

By the 00's age descrimination was affecting you if lost your job meaning longer or permanent unemployment if you were downsized. And often you were downsized because you did all the right things and had a high salary. Woe for you if because of age/ health or you were not flexible enough that you could not work 50 or more hours a week needed in these no pension temp and contract jobs that are all the rage.

Then of course a lot of boomers lost most of all or whatever they had in the great recession a euphamism for the biggest depression since the 1930's because they were scammed by thier fellow boomers. The depression exacerbated all the trends of the previous decades.

So now the depression is over and there is "full employment" based on temp and contract jobs and credit. Another words the American economy is one big Ponzi scheme. Social Security, medicaid, medicare are going to be cut because of population imbalance. The republicans are only doing it a faster more blunt manner then the democrates would have.

Most Americans are rich, huh? Wait till I tell my wife we have no financial, medical, etc problems to worry about for the rest of our lives!
Sure, my family and I might be rich compared to the standards of other countries, but we can't seriously set that standard. The only comparisons between the haves and have nots in America can only be made between Americans. And in that case, the poor are still poor. Being considered rich compared to the rest of the world isn't going to give my wife any solace when she can't pay for the dental care she very much needs.

Left wing hate group, huh? The fact that they've fought against racist and homophobic organizations says otherwise. I'd like to know what the views of the article's author about civil rights for non-white and LGBT Americans actually are.

couldn't get the charity watch rating without paying, but charity navigator gives them 3/4 stars generally and 4/4 for transparency. i don't always agree with them. i think ayan hirsi ali is a hero, not a purveyor of hate, for example. but overall, they have done good things such as bankrupting many KKK groups.

I wonder whether this quote will one day be used by historians to describe the strange era of the Trump presidency:

It certainly does capture the mental state and violence of the Left since the election, no doubt about that.

always liked Roseanne

Paul Manafort apparently has a long history in politics. This probably isn't his first trip under the bus.

Roseanne is using pretend ignorance in her tweet. She knows perfectly well we attack Trump and his delusional supporters both separately and together.

^^ If that is a comment from Roseanne Barr, I'm quite surprised, as she is a bleeding-heart Liberal----and, it almost seems as if she's saying "Stop bashing President Trump", when I would think she would be joining-in.

That's ridiculous. Most Americans are NOT rich, at least by first world standards. The US is the third most populated country on the planet, behind only China and India.

You should take this show on the road! You could do an act like Stephen Colbert, where you take all the things conservatives do and ascribe them to liberals, like calling the SPLC a hate group, when it's sole purpose is to monitor hate groups.

WOW, now I'm super-DUPER surprised!! I would've ESPECIALLY thought she was a supporter of Hillary----I figured she would take the "We women gotta stick together", attitude.

I've always been a fan of hers, generally speaking (like, her creative mind, in general; and, specifically, that she THINKS, alot, about things)----specifically speaking, I've never liked her politics, and I didn't like what she did to her show / the characters, in later seasons; but, still, I watch her show every night, and own 7 of the 9 seasons, on DVD (plus, the Halloween episodes DVD).

I may find a whole new respect, for her, if she has this attitude, now.

Not all Hollywood celebrities are brain dead, most but not all. You got to be real brave to have any non-politically correct opinions in Hollywood as Tim Allen alluded to recently.
