Given the passage of time, Vietnam will fade into the background, and Johnson will be celebrated for the achievement of civil rights for black Americans.

Uh huh, it seems the left already has forgotten about Johnson's undeniable part in Vietnam and blames it all on American warmongering in general. They did not and will not do that for Bush and Iraq since he's not one of theirs.

I never said Vietnam would be entirely forgotten - rather, Johnson's historical legacy will rest more on his civil rights fight.
Regarding Bush - even if Iraq is eventually forgotten, what else does he have to show for his presidency, other than tanking the economy, and overseeing the growing chasm between the haves and have nots?

If Bush did in deed tank the economy your man hasn't done much to un-tank it that I can tell nor has he done diddly to close any chasm between the haves and have nots.

the problem isn't the institution of government, the problem is governments in the pockets of the private sector.

Anything short of Joseph Stalin or Mao Zedong is a dud to the far left. They would still rather have an Obama dud than a Bush dud, though.

Please, you don't seriously believe the American left wants to see the likes of a Mao or a Stalin.

You mean the same people that equated the Bush administration to the Sith and the Third Reich?

Apparently enough, and those that didn't come out and say it themselves at least silently consented to their liberal comrades that did say it.

What MissLizard said. And how many run-of-the-mill conservatives have stood up to the idiocy and racism of birtherism?

Uh huh, and questioning someone birthplace when it IS an issue is automatically racist.

Obama's birthplace was never a real issue. Birthers are guided by their own racism, and so latched onto this phoney argument to accomplish what they could not do in either election.

Kraichgauer, your feelings of inadequacy are making you lash out irrationally at those who believe in self-reliance, because you feel you would not be able to cope with such freedom. You really just need to relax...
