Muhammad and Jesus both taught that only one god exists.
But Muhammad openly rejected the God of Christians (Trinity) and even today Moslems regularly trample each other to death in their frenzy to stone the "Three Pillars" that represent the God of the Christians.
Is there no one around here that is not addicted to a mushy, sentimental, completely uninformed subjectivism?
Muslims worship the one god of Abraham, as do Jews. Trinitarian Christians are the ones with the deformed understanding of the god of Abraham.
Or perhaps the Christians had been given a wider revelation of God's nature?
I don't disagree, but wider is really just another way of saying different.
In terms of theology and understanding of their relationship with God, Muslims seem to not be not far removed from Bronze Age YHWY cultists or maybe the Jews of Biblical times.
Note this isn't me suggesting their religious interpretation is more correct or valid, only that those two seem more similar on the surface. The fact Jesus was a Jew and Muhammud wasn't doesn't inherently mean Jesus' cult will be the one that's more Jewish in beliefs, practices and customs.
At the end of the day Christianity was a religion for Indo-European gentile (Greek-speaking Romans), non-Semitic people. Islam was primarily intended for Semitic Arabs who already shared many cultural practices with Jews, or at least 'understood' them. Semitics had traditions of requiring 'ritual cleanliness' (including circumcision) and of 'purity' (no mixing meats, cloths, grains, ect.), Indo-Europeans had traditions of trinitarian gods and had nothing analogous to kosher laws.
I'm aware that in the early days of Christianity Jewish Christianity was a significant portion of Christianity overall, but there's no reason to assume these people were trinitarian in their interpretation.
Since I'm rambling and getting no closer to making any real point I'll just trail off here...
