Why do the Islamic extremists say Christians and Jews aren't worshipping Allah, when all three religions worship the same god?
They are not the same God. All three have different belief systems.
The roots of thier religions are different.
Jews believe in the god of fire and smoke.
Xtians believe in the three headed god of the fish.
Muslims believe in a god that lives in a rock.

They used to be the same religion right, it is just that christians belive that Jesus was the messiah, Muselims belived that there was the prophet that wrote the Koraan and the Jewish people are still waiting for there messiah.

Bradleigh, we Muslims believe that Muhammed (S) is the last and final of the prophets, ie, the Jewish messiah. We don't believe that he wrote the Qur'an, Allah (S), the one and only God, is the author. We believe that the Qur'an comprises of the same original message which was present in the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospel, prior to their corruption by man.

You can't end religious beliefs by destroying holy books. Besides, I do not think John Lennon hated religion to the extent of wishing its complete destruction.

You can however stop ignorant fools from taking it literately and using it as a defense for vile actions.

And how would you do that? By force? By convincing? By trying to prevent the ignorant fools from doing vile actions, you'd become what you set out to destroy. No, change has to come from within.

People can be fanatical over any cause. It's the religious ones who get all the attention.

Well, I agree, but it's easier to be fanatical when you operate by a strict doctrine.

Not necessarily. Islam is a very liberal religion compared to the rest, but public opinion, even among Muslims, pictures the religion as the most strict one.

slowmutant, I appreciate your curiosity. I would advise that you read the Noble Qur'an, as I have read the Bible. I would recommend the english interpretation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali at http://www.tanzil.info (It happens to be at a random sura, please select Sura 1 - Al Fatiha before proceeding). There's also a very nice audio recitation by Al-Ghamidi, may Allah (SWT) bless him.

There's also this interesting website I discovered after a brief google search: http://www.liberalislam.net/ (Love Obiwan's quote xD)

Those sites make islam have something in common with communism. It sounds good in theory, but does not work that way in real life... Humans have a way of taking ideals and twisting them to gain power over others.

Thanks for the link, Khan Sama. I wonder how the Koran will compare to the Bible. Do you think it's actually a good thing that Christianity and Islam are criticized? I mean, if neither Christianity nor Islam could withstand criticism or tolerate dissent, they would be very weak indeed. I enjoy defending Christianity from its detractors in the context of debate.

I think, however, that my Bible study should take precedence over the Koran.

You're very welcome.

I can't really say...I don't know. Sura Al-Ana'am, Aya 5, for example, says: So they have indeed rejected truth when it came to them; therefore the truth which they mocked at shall shine upon them.

I enjoy defending Islam, but do feel it's futile in the long run. I understand your feelings, I can't stand it when someone mocks my religion, although I mocked it in the past.

Follow your heart, my friend. Back when I was atheist, and I started a process of looking at religions, after reading various holy books, my journey brought me back to Islam. Nothing beats a thorough research to confirm your beliefs. :)

Very good advice. Everyone needs to have a spiritual anchor as well as firm belief system. Don't let people get you down on your search or about you decision of what you believe.
