^ I wonder if North Korea's thinking is this: threaten the western shores of America in an effort to get the other world powers to back away from North Korea. It's pretty silly. Reminds me of that scene in Men In Black when Will Smith's character steps on the small cockroaches on the ground as Super Cockroach is climbing up the spaceship tower in the field in Flushing, Queens. The crunching of the smaller roaches causes Super Cockroach to abort his ascent to deal with Will Smith and his impudence. Such folly works well in the movies, but just not in real life.

In yet another reversal of his views, Trump now says that China are not currency manipulators.

It'll only be a matter of time before he says, "Oh, immigrants are not that bad and the wall is actually a bad idea."

So are they going to continue investigating Trump's supposed collusion with Putin after Trump practically went to war with Russia?

Will there be any more SNL sketches of a shirtless Vladdy schmoozing with Donald?

Or are they just going to act now as if none of all that nonsense ever took place?

I have to wonder if Trump changing his tune and other Presidents not following through on campaign promises, is because there really is an oligarchy running things.

I think a lot of it is media narrative aimed at divide & conquer/demoralization since Trump hasn't changed that much nor was he ever considered rigid ideologue, but the media is also in cahoots with the deep state so it's very confusing as to who is actually in charge. I think it's clear that Trump faced some extralegal opposition to his agenda and knowing the history of these 'intelligence agencies' I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility & probably even likely that some coercion was used to get him to play ball on certain things.

Trump likes grand bargains, his meeting with President Xi might of been important than we realized in regards to our differences over trade and North Korea which Trump has linked together. Using trade as a means of leveraging China into helping us out with the NK problem I think is smart, Kim Jong-Un really is a madman with nuclear weapons threatening not only our allies in the region but the US itself. it's a problem that is coming to a head so contingencies need to be drawn up, the young Kim does not seem like a stable leader at all.

Words are words, we'll see what actions follow them. The cynical view is that it's all politics and theater, Trump flanked the media on the issue and now they have to begrudgingly praise him. It kills their Russia narrative and cracks the wall of Democratic opposition, maybe now he will be able to work with them on things like healthcare/taxes/infrastructure.

I think it's encouraging that Trump and Xi seemingly have built some rapport, I am hopeful the same will occur when he finally meets Putin. Trump's personal style of diplomacy is part of the reason I voted for him, Trump is a guy who wants to talk to people & make deals not a guy who wants to play this game of sanctions and withholding the "honor" of meeting with you as punishment.

Short of the apocalypse there isn't going to be anything that makes me regret not voting for Hillary.

My point was that the other poster seems to have things backwards, and seems to think that North Korea is a huge country, and that the USA is a tiny pipsqueak when its the other way around. Not that NK doesnt have an outsized military for its small size. But the idea that the NK navy could do anything that would make any move by the US Navy "pale by comparison" is laughable.

I seriously doubt than any north korean sub could make it across the pacific to "lurk" off California. But even they had that capability why would North Korea deploy them that way? And why that in response to these manuevers?

the japanese managed to do it in WW2 (and within spitting distance from where i live, to boot): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardment_of_Ellwood

http://goletahistory.com/attack-on-ellwood/

inspired apparently by an embarassing incident

Quote:
A naval reserve officer, Nishino commanded a merchant ship which sailed through the Santa Barbara Channel before the war. His ship had once stopped at the Ellwood Oil Field to take on a cargo of oil. Unfortunately, while walking to a welcoming ceremony, Nishino tripped and fell into a patch of prickly pear cactus (now below Fairway 11 of the Sandpiper Golf Course). A group of oil workers saw the Japanese officer having cactus spines pulled from his backside and began to laugh. As a result, Nishino chose the oil field as the target for his deck gun. Most of the damage he inflicted was within 300 m (980 ft) of the spot he had fallen.

and then he radioed to tokyo how he "left santa barbara in flames".

but, of course, the japanese navy was far more formidable and competent than anything the norks have ever been abne to muster.

let's not forget the massive amount of artillery that NK has pointed towards seoul right now; a very dense population center containing a significant portion of the country's population. and it is merely 32 miles from the DMZ.

regardless of how ill equipped NK is to wage total war (or any scale of war) against the united states right now, there is indeed a threat to it's southern neighbor that some may be overlooking. whether it is a huge threat or not, i'm not sure, but it most certainly is there. i've no doubts that most norks, at least in their bloated military, are indoctrinated enough to the point that they would let loose everything they have at their southern neighbor, it if seems like their sovereignty is at stake. it looks like this is a very long time in the making.

which brings me to my next point. suppose that the north korean regime has finally been dismantled and the kims have been dealt with (in whatever sick way befits them). south korea can be unscathed.

what do you do with the millions of otherwise innocent north korean citizens, whose entire world, everything they have been ALLOWED to know, has collapsed right before them? of course, there are some that have been illegally 'westernized' to a greater extent than some may think, but i don't believe that is most of them. millions of people who basically must start life over again as they adjust to a vastly different world, and they have to go somewhere...

does anyone really want to deal with that?

Thats what I was talking about.

The Japanese in WWII were a major power, and by the time of Pearl Harbor they had conquered the whole western half of the Pacific Ocean, and thus were 3000 miles closer in striking position at the US than the Norks are now. And yet even the Japanese could barely get one or two subs off our west coast. And even those two couldnt do much once they got there.

The poster I was responding to assumed (as it were an obvious fact of life) that North Korea could flood our waters with so many subs that it would dwarf the US naval presence off of the Korean Peninsula.

Comparing the sizes of navies is kinda peaches-to-pears. But if you're going by tonnage:one US aircraft carrier alone is almost equal to the entire north Korean navy.

If it wasn't for fake hate crimes promoted by the leftist media, there'd be almost no hate crimes at all.

Yet Another Hoax: KKK Trump-Supporter Who Made Racist Threats Turns Out To Be … Black

... The Muslim woman robbed of her hijab in Louisiana? Never happened.

The black woman racially-harassed at a Philadelphia gas station? Never happened.

The Asian student racially-taunted in Minnesota? Never happened.

The bisexual student receiving hate-notes in Chicago? Never happened.

The black church burned to the grown and defaced with "Vote Trump!" Committed by a black man.

Asian store firebombed by a white Trump supporter? Committed by a black man.

Michigan student told to remove her hijab or be lit on fire? Never happened.

Racist note left for Hispanic students in North Carolina? Written by a Trump-hating Hispanic.

The Jewish Community Centers serially-threatened with anti-Semitic bomb threats? One perpetrator was a Jewish man, the other was a left-wing member of the very same media that spent weeks blaming Trump for these crimes.
