The way to take it, in my opinion, is that God has asked us not to murder AND not to judge. Which means, your sole option is to mourn the loss of his life, IMHO.

I doubt any unborn children were saved; those who would take such measures tend to be driven enough to find another alternative.

He's not regretting anything right now. His brain ceased functioning when he died - so the biochemical processes that made up his consciusness are no longer there. Him feeling anything is as likely as him breathing or digesting food right now.

Yes, but many pro-lifers are actively opposed to the IUD and 'the pill' and other forms of birth control, as they allow conception to occur. Not all abortion opponents are puritans, and not all opponents also oppose the IUD and pill. But many do.

The problem is the rule allows the individual or the institution to decide when a pregnancy begins and what constitutes an abortion, rather than relying on the widely accepted scientific definitions of both.

The American Medical Association, the British Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists agree that a pregnancy is established only after a fertilized egg is implanted in the uterine lining. Up to one-half of fertilized eggs never implant.

The draft rule defines abortion as any procedure or drug that results in the termination of a fertilized egg, even prior to implantation.

The pill prevents ovulation; it does not allow the egg to fertilize. Those who assume otherwise are misinformed. No one defines a failure to ovulate as an abortion. IUD's are a different matter, and how they work varies. Some prevent implantation; some prevent ovulation. When the IUD prevents the implantation of a fertized egg, that can be said to be the equivalent of an abortion.

Yes, if one believes in science, the pill prevents ovulation. But many opponents of abortion contend that this is not 100% of how the pill works, that sometimes ovulation occurs, but that the hormonal changes caused by the pill prevent implantation. There is not much evidence for that belief, but just surf around anti-abortion websites, and you will find opposition to the pill based on that line of reasoning.

The legal and medical definitions of an abortion requires an implanted, fertilized egg. An IUD does not cause abortion according to current legal and medical standards ... but the anti-abortion crowd wants to change those definitions and restrict those methods of birth control.

Quote:
Physicians across America -- and around the world -- are now confirming that the Pill, IUDs, Depo-Provera and Norplant cause early abortions.

First, a look at the Pill. Research shows that in many cases the Pill causes early abortions -- abortions the mother may not even know she's having. You may find this shocking, but the facts are clear after reading Randy Alcorn's book, titled;

"Does the Birth Control Pill Cause Abortions?"

Here's what 11 physicians and medical professionals are saying about the book Randy Alcorn published in 1998 ...

Just because you are a christian and cognito is not does NOT mean that the rules(like not judging others lest thou be judged) dont apply to you,Shadowgirl! The fact that christians think that because they are more righteous that God will let them get away with things that non-christians cannot really says a lot about the TRUE PURPOSE of religion! :x

I know that and that wasn't passing judgment that was calling someone out.
We aren't perfect we are just forgiven. I never claimed that I was better then anyone else.
Maybe you should get to know a person more before you make a judgment on them.

I was hoping that Cognito would edit down his post but now that it has been quoted and the mud slung back I am not sure there is much point to that.

EVERYONE, please refrain from PERSONAL attacks. Argue to the POSITION, NOT to the person.

Interesting dichotomy there, though, monty.

Many people in the pro-life movement claim that abortion is bad for women because it always, sooner or later, results in mental health problems such as depression. Undoubtedly in many women, abortion is followed by mental distress, but - aside from the deliberate load of guilt that some pro-lifers try to dump on these women (and should be ashamed of), it's probably down to two things: the hormonal impact of suddenly not being pregnant any more, and the mental trauma (which can go from mild depression all the way up to full-blown PTSD) that some people can suffer after any medical or surgical procedure. Both of those will be worse the more advanced the pregnancy was, so any attempt to delay or prevent the woman from having an abortion, if she truly wants one, will harm her more.

There are, in spite of this, many women who don't feel any kind of depression, guilt or any other negative feelings at all after having an abortion - whose dominant emotion, in very many cases, is relief. Only recently have they felt able to talk about it without getting slated. But if the thing about the Pill is in any way true, there must be a lot of women walking around who've had an 'abortion' without knowing it...and who aren't suffering any mental ill-effects whatsoever. Having taken the Pill for close to a decade, I might even be one of them. I assure you that the fact that I may have despatched one or more of mine and my ex-husband's blastocysts to a premature end causes me this much distress (makes circle with thumb and forefinger).

The 'bad for women's mental health' argument is a thin cover for the fact that for pro-lifers it's all about the embryo, but the idea that thousands of women are aborting without even having an inkling of it themselves tends to blow that out of the water.

Disgusting.

Of course he was not, but if you mean to say that he "deserved" it, that is also disgusting.

No it didn't. Abortions will still be had.

Extrapolate on this until you become a good person.

*heart*

A little rough perhaps, but there is definitely some truth to this.

Quote:

You don't have to be ignorant to recognize the ignorance of another person. He has every right to give his opinion, especially when you put yourself into the line of fire with such grotesquely arrogant and disgusting statements.

Quote:
Nobody in the world is perfect you are a sinner like me and everyone else on the planet.

It is this kind of statement that makes so many want to rail against you. Some of us don't recognize the concept of "sin", you are arrogantly stating the world is one way, when many of us don't agree with you. If you left ANY room open for their views, you'd probably be received more kindly.

Quote:
I can only pray that you will repent for this behavior and come to a relationship with God.

This is insulting. This is far worse in my mind than any personal attack (especially a justified one) could ever be.

Quote:
I know that and that wasn't passing judgment that was calling someone out.

Call it what you like, some of us get reactionary when you spew that vile arrogance. You expect us to treat you with respect, and yet you show absolutely NONE for us.

Quote:
I never claimed that I was better then anyone else.

You never directly said it, but it could easily be perceived in many of your statements.

Quote:
Maybe you should get to know a person more before you make a judgment on them.

I have not seen one post from you that makes this possible. All of your posts are matter-of-fact, there is almost nothing personal to be found. You don't even respond to my posts, and I've probably responded to you a dozen times now.

Quote:
EVERYONE, please refrain from PERSONAL attacks. Argue to the POSITION, NOT to the person.

I respect where you are coming from, and would like to see this as the standard, but sometimes, when dealing with certain people, it is near-impossible to resist reactionary temptation. For me, I don't get offended by personal attacks, I get offended by arrogant absolutism. People being dismissive, especially in a matter-of-fact or sarcastic manner, really bothers me. I'd much rather they just say it as they feel it, and as such, often do that myself, which could be viewed as a personal attack, but on a scale of "things that I think should offend", any personal attacks I make are far less severe than this arrogant absolutism. That's just my opinion though, and again, I have respect for where you are coming from.

shadow girl, I will pray for your soul, for you are following the words of a false prophet. The reason neglect happens to kids is because the parents are unable to care for them, and is it not better for the child not to be raised in a toxic home then to give birth to a child they abuse.

From my understanding you are correct; birth control pills are a synthetic pregnacy hormone which tricks the body into thinking it is already impregnated so no egg is released. Depo Provera shots, Norplants (I think the same med. as Depo), and IUDs work by making the womb inhospitable to receive a fertalized egg.
