Horrible. Glad some good came out of it.

^^^ it is, despite its obvious limitations, still better than NOTHING AT ALL. as an example, 4 years ago a deer came along and clobbered me, knocking me off my bike and leaving me a bloody broken heap, I nearly died from shock/blood loss. spent a week in the hospital, $53k in debt. had I this plan at that time [couldn't afford it as it was almost $500 per month] I would have had about a tenth of that after everything was sorted out. so IT IS USEFUL no matter what you say.

You actually got attacked by a deer? Or did you like hit a deer on a bike? Either way that's pretty nuts. Shows the importance of culling the herd, their populations can go crazy and they can pose a real danger. I've known of a lot of people who've had their cars totaled and even a few that have died in these accidents, never someone on a bike tho. Sorry to hear that happened to you.

thank you my good man :flower: the problem is on this website there are too many self-righteous people who should know better, who seem to think this mercenary system is fine and dandy, as long as it hurts somebody other than themselves.

What about Medicaid? How does that fit in?

made just above the poverty line that year, so did not qualify for Medicaid. that is the bind the working class American is in, the homeless and migrants get care [after a fashion, in the ER] but the working-class joe lunchbucket does not on pain of lifetime financial ruin because tertiary care costs on average a minimum of 10 times what primary care costs, but without insurance there is no primary care. that is a ridiculous situation, and no other western nation does this to its own citizens.

And I'd be careful about the words you use to describe people here. Self righteous my ass. I don't care what you say, the Obama plans suck. If it wasn't for that charity of yours, you'd still be in hot water. Better keep their number for the next big deer that crosses your path!

No need to be rude, being in a truckload of debt is certainly not the greatest situation one can be in.

I think everyone can agree that the cost of healthcare and insurance in this country is insane and unfair considering that almost all these countries with socialized medicine spend less on medicine and get more than we do. I imagine part of this is because the rest of the world rides on the coattails American medical innovation without having to foot any of the bills. On micro level you can find examples of good and bad in any type of system, I don't believe Obamacare is a good law even if it does help some individuals, we can do better a lot better than just a massive payoff to the insurance companies to convince them to cover people with preexisting conditions and to allow children to stay on their parents insurance until age 27. Medicaid expansion helps poor people but Medicaid also sucks, I know this first hand.

nurse, your direct ad hominems only diminish your position. by supporting the pre-ACA status quo you are in fact all in favor of hurting me and others in my situation due to your sanctimonious middle-class high dudgeon. you know this and your denial of this is transparently foul play.

Again your putting words in people's mouths. Yeah, I really want you to get hurt - just what kind of person do you think I am? I'm tired of you people painting the Right like we're a bunch of ogres. Screw you.

On the other hand, I can be just like how you want me to be. The good part about Obamacare is now the hospitals won't have to write off all that bad debt. That will keep my job. But there are still some who have an "out" by paying the fee, so something will have to be done with that.

Like these ogres?

Nurse the core issue with market based health insurance, although I generally support is that its demand is so incredibly inelastic that its costs verge on predatory pricing for those that do not have any health insurance plan in place. Consumer health care is an important commodity that no one with rational forethought would forgo it and would invest every single dime that one has. As such, it is natural for hospitals to skyrocket, often unfairly, the prices of medical treatment.

There goes your freedom of speech and right to bear arms (plus right to privacy), replaced with a "living and breathing document that needs to be interpreted with "modern" standards".

Say what you want about Scalia, but at least he read it how it's written.

Courts shouldn't interpret things based on personal opinions, rather how the law is written.

Another thing, you act like Obamacare saved you, but high deductible plans are no new concept. You could have had a catastrophic insurance plan that would have got you out of that deer mess. I've had catastrophic health insurance myself - actually a little over a year ago. Why didn't you do that?
