I do not believe I have ever read him to make this type of statement.He didnt say them explicitly but what I was suggesting is that he has ulterior motives for being violently opposed to abortion and uses the moral argument as a cover. I'd like to point out that there actually ARE atheists who are against abortion(godlessprolifers.org) so this isnt purely a religious issue. BTW Shadowgirl, sorry for being so judgemental myself.
Nonetheless there is STRONG support for the radical wing of the pro-life movement by white supramacist groups in the US, most notably the Ku Klux Klan.

Extrapolate on this until you become a good person.
Later on you say "If you left ANY room open for their views, you'd probably be received more kindly." and "you are arrogantly stating the world is one way, when many of us don't agree with you." Why don't you follow your own advice, and let her have her views and disagree with you?
In her view, Tiller was worse than most serial killers, so if you want to tell her that she's wrong according to her own views, then try her views on for size first. If you'd heard that a notorious serial killer was murdered in prison by another inmate, wouldn't you think he deserved it? If you came to the conclusion that the serial killer's murder was unjustified, would you really come to that conclusion lightheartedly and easily?

You are not a person of god, you are little coward who claims your beliefs descend from god and not your weak heart.
*heart*
A little rough perhaps, but there is definitely some truth to this.
The few points that were made here could have been made without the insults. I won't bother to rebut arguments so weak that they need to be framed by insults.

It is this kind of statement that makes so many want to rail against you. Some of us don't recognize the concept of "sin", you are arrogantly stating the world is one way, when many of us don't agree with you. If you left ANY room open for their views, you'd probably be received more kindly.
"Sin" is the Christian word for wrong acts. She just basically stated that nobody's perfect, including you. That isn't arrogant, it's a fact.

Quote:
I can only pray that you will repent for this behavior and come to a relationship with God.
This is insulting. This is far worse in my mind than any personal attack (especially a justified one) could ever be.
In her view, what she's wishing on him is an incredibly good thing. Given that this was her response to a blatant and direct insult to her, it is certainly not insulting. If it had been insulting, it wouldn't have been justified (since personal insults are unjustifiable), but it would have been provoked.
It is interesting to note the parallel between the justification of the murder of an alleged murderer and the justification of the insult to an alleged insulter.

You never directly said it, but it could easily be perceived in many of your statements.
Prove it or take it back. I have never seen her make any statement that presumed superiority over anyone else.

I get offended by arrogant absolutism.
I'd be interested in what exactly you mean by this. If you mean that anyone who has the gall to think that they are right and you are wrong is arrogant, it would seem to be a bit of arrogant absolutism itself.

Suggesting that without proof isn't very nice. Why would he even need 'ulterior motives' anyway?

I don't think shadow girl understands god's true message but w/e, in the end we will see who is right. However, I must say the inablitly to allow one's mind to view this from someone's perspecitve is a bit disheartening. Shadow girl has yet to refute any evidence raised against her view and side stepped it by saying the questioner should basically convert. I am gonna be straight, I will never convert to your beliefs for I find them silly. However, abortion is not once mentioned in the bible, so please direct me to the passage so I may see it myself.

So, you're gonna jump on me every time I get a touch reactionary? Just add an imo at the end, I don't always qualify myself. This is a rather ridiculous line of reasoning. First, it doesn't matter how she views what she is saying, what matters is how it will be perceived by others. If I find it insulting, it's insulting. Justification has absolutely nothing to do with it. Provocation has nothing to do with it. She's basically saying "I hope you come to my conclusions so you don't burn in eternal hell". Yea, she gift-wraps it in an "I care about you" sort of way, but that's how I perceive what she is saying.

Not all of us view this as being nasty. Some of us would call it being "blunt". In my view, it is better to be blunt then tongue-in-cheek and dismissive.

It might be a gender issue rather than one of faith. Females are passive aggressive in general. I am not certain if this is inate or learned behavior. You might have to excuse that of us. vibratetogether wrote:

This post that the two of you slammed her for was the only one from her side in this thread to admit to any conflict or ambiguity about this. It showed heart and consideration of the opinions of others, rather than knee-jerk reactions. If there was ever a post of hers not to attack, it was this one.

Showing the folly of someone's case is fine, insulting them for being stupid enough to believe it is not.
I don't mind if you think absolute statements are false, but this is, itself, an absolute statement. Let other people disagree with it. Tell them they're wrong all you want, but don't tell them they're arrogant simply for thinking that their view is actually right.

I see what you mean. I don't fully agree with you, but that's because we have different opinions of what constitutes arrogance, not because of being a Christian.

To hold an opinion, you have to think that it's correct. Some people think that it is very probably correct, others think it's definitely correct. Discounting the second group entirely seems silly to me.

It isn't a question of religion, race, or any other consideration. It is a very simple question: at what point does a fertilized egg became a person? If I believed that a fertilized egg was indeed a person, then I would also believe that abortion is murder.
There is no solution to this difference. We can sit here and argue this forever, without anyone's mind ever being changed.
The only possible solution is for both sides to work to decrease the need for abortions.

Ok here are the passages that interpret abortion.
Psalm 10:8
8 He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.
Psalm 127:3 (New Living Translation)
3 Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him.
Even in sin nobody is born by accident.
Psalm 139:13-16 (New International Version)
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Actually they did... Jesus changed them in the Sermon on the Mount... see Matthew chapters 5, 6, and 7.
Jesus Christ wrote:
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee;
24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32 but I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Is.
35 nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: Is. neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: Ex.
39 but I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Its personal reasonable for religious people to be reminded that their conduct is not consistent with the principles of their faith.
MANY people behave in ways that go against the beliefs they promulgate. Of course if a christian is doing or saying something unchristian then its to be expected that they will try to cover their ass by claiming their critics dont understand christianity.
