self-righteous indignation? I do not thing he was offended I think he was explaining something. The only self-righteous indignation is coming from you whenever you preach about the right of someone to control their body although they are acting against another body.

Anti-abortionist? I do say that allowing abortion in the cases of rape and physical or mental health does not make me that. You are blinded by bigotry even more than I thought. I have not been strident wth any person who has shown decency on this thread, a class of people which does not inlude you.

I do not care why someone started this thread. The only thing I care about is the truth, which you consistently try to ignore, and use twisted arguments in order to repudiate me on. I haven't even been attacking people for disagreeing with me on whethr Humanity or viability takes precedence. What I have attacked however are ignorant and bigoted people such as yourself who try to claim that a Human Zygote, or a Human Foetus is not a Human. You are perverting reality, always trying to back it up with insults every time, insults that are not even true. You're just another bully.

What an aborted foetus could have been is not a good argument against abortion. The only real concern anyone should have when they approach this matter is that Human Rights are not violated. And a zygote is a Human.

It's easy to believe in moral absolutes but how do you propose caring for all these unwanted children?

How do you propose on dealing with the long waiting list for adoption?

That's outright false. I do know is that the waiting list for adopting a child is long in the UK and USA. In the UK 17% of all couples are infertile in some way and many of those turn to adoption. The waiting list is chronically long and yet there are many children waiting for adoption. You want to know why? Government employess just casn't trust to give the children to people even if they're just as good as any other parent. They're on a knife-edge though because they are defensive.

The Religious Right advocates abortion by starving pregnant women so that a miscarriage will result.

Actually, Gedrene, it's perfectly true.

The waiting list to adopt an infant is, indeed, long. However, for parents who want to adopt an older child, the process (at least in Canada) is significantly faster, because there are very, very few potential adoptive parents for these children.

@visagrunt

What you are saying has merrit but the specifics of it mean that it is not particularly relevant to the question. Yes there are many children who need to be adopted, there is however a shortage of babies. It is unlikely that children who are not aborted will be adopted at age three. Rather they will for the most part be basically newborns. That is specifically where the shortage is. While it is tragic that there are children without homes, families adopting these children often have very differant reasons to those who wish to found a family with a newborn.

There has always been an over abundance of children and adolescents in need of a loving home. What has changed over the years, especially recently, is that few and fewer infants have been available for adoption. Planed Parenthood, whose statistics are easily found, has found less and less people are opting for adoption over abortion when people use their 'services'.

Just jumping in here (against my better judgement), but has anyone even considered the fact that forcing women to carry pregnancies to term is impossible? There is no correlation between abortion rates and legality to suggest that outlawing abortion actually reduces abortion rates. It's not a deterrent. It just sends women to butchers with coat hangers in back alleys.

Women always have made their own choices on this matter, and they will continue to do so regardless of what others think, say, or do. The whole pro-choice/pro-life argument is somewhat moot in this regard. The only real control others have is to determine whether abortions should be allowed to be performed in safe environment with medical professionals, or not.

the minute this thread was started it had left all pretense of dealing with reality behind.

they always do when dealing with abortion, but you are right legality really doesnt matter,
with no viable option thye would choose less safe alternatives, or go somewhere where they can get an abortion.

Actually there is and the correlation is statistically obvious. From 1970-73 as abortion steadily became more legal within the US the numbers tripled.

The same massive upswing is evident also in the UK.

There is absolutely no shortage of people who want to adopt a white infant.

Way less people who want to adopt a black or hispanic infant.

A whole lot less people who want to adopt a kid of any color with emotional and behavioral issues who've been removed from the care of unfit parents.

That sounds like outright libel. Prove it.

Damn, I am an atheist protecting the religious right. I wonder when people will actually admit that I am objective...

Canada's case is Canada's case. In the UK the list of children and of willing adoptees is as long as my arm to put it metaphorically. It's a recognised problem here in the UK. Just because Canada doesn't have an issue of waiting times, doesn't mean that's the case in the UK or the USA.

I'll tell you one other major reason why there is a problem in the UK, it's because social services in the UK is fractiously bureaucratic about race issues and making sure each baby goes to the person of their ethnicity, even if white parents would be (and are) willing to adopt a child from an ethnic minority.

How superficial. Although I would say that this has not so much to do with abortion issues.

I would adopt a child of any race give it a good home and care for that child.

Also this has nothing to do with abortion issues but WP has a history of going off topic

Your numbers are extremely faulty. Your US numbers from the wiki page completely omit illegal abortions, as well as any data prior to 1970. Your UK numbers state not a single illegal abortion after 1974. We know that illegal abortions still occur even when it's legal (various reasons - secrecy, financial, etc.).

Here is a much more comprehensive study (peer-reviewed and even posted by Fox at one point) that finds abortion rates to be similar between developed (mostly legal) and developing (mostly illegal) countries.
http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lance ... X/abstract

It always has been, and will continue to be a woman's choice. Legality is irrelevant.
