I am officially distubed by the truth of U.S healthcare.

Healthcare is a service, not a right. There, that's out of the bag.
Even with that people still get healthcare for free or at reduced prices all the time if they need it.
What do you think medicaid and medicare are for?
Veterans can get it though the VA.
Those programs are far from perfect but on the other hand people aren't being gassed for being sick or injured like some of you are practically making it out to be.
Let me relate this to you: Last year my dad who was on medicare and medicare only had a major stroke.
Without question or delay they transported him via ambulance to one of the finest medical centers in the state and no expense was spared.
He didn't make it but not for lack of effort from the time the ambulance came until he passed away two days later.
The level of support was awesome and no one but medicare got a bill for it!
I can relate several other stories like this but this one is what came to mind first.
I agree the cost of healthcare is disproportionate to the actual value of the services rendered but I assure you you'll NEVER see some kind of social utopia in this country so forget it.

I am aware of medicaid and medicare....however these programs tend not to be very adequete, and I don't even know if I can get on medicaid....Also my friend who is a Military Veteren is having to go through a hell of legal hearings and crap just to get some basic coverage so I am leaning towards maybe these programs are not so effective and really do not adress the needs of people unable to afford health insurance or medical care.

Also I never said they were gassing anyone, but if someone like me were to end up in an emergeny room because of a severe injury yes they would have to give me emergeny treatment......but then I would have to find some miraculous way to pay off the bill they would send me.

And healthcare is a 'needed' service so it might as well be a right....can you honestly argue someone is not entitled to medical treatment if they are freaking dying for instance?

Yea, under a government run system the wealthy and upper class would not get preferential treatment. There certainly would never be any sort of corruption that would cause some to get better treatment than others because politicians are just so honest and truthful. And GE pays taxes just like every other business. <end sarcasm>

We all know damn well that under a government system, first the politician will write themselves in preferential treatment. Then preferential treatment will come for other government employees, then preferential treatment for political groups aligned to whoever is in power. And anyone willing to make a large enough campaign donation will be bumped to the front of the line.

Also what I always say to the dem who wants government run healthcare is, "do you want George Bush in charge of your health care?" To which they freak out and say he no longer president. But I point out that moods change over time, and eventually America will again elect a right wing christian fanatic to be president. And do you really want a right wing christian fanatic controlling your health care?

The difference in a currency based healthcare system is that even though those who are wealthy get better treatment you have the option to save up, pool money from your family, get assistance from charity, and buy your way to better care too. When the government runs healthcare, if you are politically opposed to those in power, nothing you can do will get you the care you need. Do you really think a christian led administration is going to give a dam about gays struggling with aids?

Well one question who would be letting the government do all that? as it stands now Corporate America owns our government they are the ones paying the salaries of these government officials....what if the people that actually represent more than 1% of the population were paying their salaries. I think the real issue is people are not involved enough, people have become docile sheep who just go along with whatever the media tells them to....yeah we think we have freedom and on the surface we do but in reality we are being ruled by the few on top......they tell us what's cool, they tell us what we should listen to, what we should wear, how we should feel or provide distractions so that we can care more about reality shows than reality. The best way to opress people is to keep them ignorant. But anyways enough of my anti Corporate America rant.

Universal Health care alone would be an improvement probably, because for one people might have to acknowledge other people exist.......because it's no secret in such a system people would be paying taxes and the taxes would go to things like Universal Healthcare so thus everyone is helping everyone(oh how evil ) And if other people exist, and people communicate and if people realise many of them are facing the same problems every day and relate to each other then maybe they will get sick of what is going on and do something about it most individuals are afraid to deviate because they feel isolated so what is the point....but that's not what corporate america wants now is it and so far it seems they are suceeding.

If corporate America owned the government Obama would have been impeached and thrown out of office by now. If anyone is basically in control of our government it is radical lunatic progressives and Unions.

How so Obama is one of their puppets...what about all that money he funneled into large corporations in an attempt to 'help stimulate the economy.' who did that help?

Explains why he's been trying to make their lives a living hell, why he's had his people sue Boeing over the fact they are building a plant in South Carolina, etc.

Explains why he (in violation of the law), took away the money that should have gone to the Chrysler bondholders, and gave it to his Union buddies.

And you honestly think I'm dumb enough to believe your argument, I don't know whether to feel insulted or simply laugh at how much you underestimated me.

Veterans can get it though the VA.

In the past people like you screamed "socialism" at programs like medicaid and medicare. Now you accept them. Just like the rest of the civilized world accepts single payer healthcare while backwards Americans scream "socialism".

Oh yes those poor Chrysler bondholders are going to be reduced to a living hell...I don't agree with how Obama has used government money or whatever.......and you seem to be acting rather agressive. You do realise the reason I have been debating about this topic is because it is something I care about, I am sick of seeing people screwed over and seeing how the lower class and poor really are being treated an honest hard worker can hardly seem to make enough to live on.

Regardless of our positions on this topic I have good intentions I am not maliciously trying to make you feel insulted or underestimate you...I am not that kind of person. I guess I should not be debating this because I do not know how much longer I can take the accusations without getting more depressed than I wish to be.

No, you didn't say that and I didn't specifically mean you. It seems to be the general consensus, though, that people that aren't covered by regular commercial insurance are totally up sh!t creek.

Yes I can argue that they are not ENTITLED all day and neither am I. On the other hand they should not be totally denied it either and I'll argue that all day, too.

I don't have a home I live at my moms house, but yes doing that for no reason would be wrong......now if there was a huge emergency in the area and my house was needed to provide shelter for instance I would gladly allow that. I of course would not want to be kicked out but I can share.

So when looking at things like healthcare, living conditions, income ect......the people at the bottom do need help, just abandoning them to their fate on account of 'well that's my money they are taking for taxes to help people.'

Now I realise in reality our government is not currently focusing tax money towards programs that help the public, which is wrong.....and needs to be adressed but for the purpose of this thread I think I will keep on topic of the principle of paying taxes to help others.

Like i said, they aren't perfect but better than nothing by a long shot.

Also I never said they were gassing anyone, but if someone like me were to end up in an emergeny room because of a severe injury yes they would have to give me emergeny treatment......but then I would have to find some miraculous way to pay off the bill they would send me.

No, you didn't say that and I didn't specifically mean you. It seems to be the general consensus, though, that people that aren't covered by regular commercial insurance are totally up sh!t creek.

And healthcare is a 'needed' service so it might as well be a right....can you honestly argue someone is not entitled to medical treatment if they are freaking dying for.

Yes I can argue that they are not ENTITLED all day and neither am I. On the other hand they should not be totally denied it either and I'll argue that all day, too.

Anything is better than nothing, but then there is the issue of the fact I don't even have medicaid......I do plan to apply again and hope for the best though.

And yes I am not covered by regular commercial insurance so I guess I am totally up s**t creek.

And you say they should not be totally denied to what degree should they be denied?

Well I'm sorry I don't even have acess to any kind of basic mental health treatment and cannot even afford official diagnoses or anything......so yeah the issues with healthcare are an important topic to me.

I do not see how I am saying its ok to steal from people simply because they have something I don't, by stating my support for the idea of a universal healthcare system paid for with taxes? Yes I would like to have some basic freaking coverage so I can maybe take care of some of these problems I have or at least get them diagnosed...I don't think that is expecting a whole lot or encouraging anyone to steal.

I mean sorry you're pissed off and all but that does not mean its ok for you to try and make me feel bad about myself and like I am encourging all kinds of evil things because you don't agree with my opinion.

Quite frankly I am more pissed off than you could ever imagine. Legal taxation is not stealing. It is a social contract. Get that through your thick skull.

Okay, if you are going to insist that "liberals" are thieves, I'm going to insist that right-wingers are heartless soulless empty headed drones.
