Okay, well if you're going to use your typical schoolboard education to win this argument then go off and live in that world, because you are a drone.. people never lived until 20, or 30, or 40... that is a lie. And the reason the water is dirty is from power plants and chemicals being dumped in to them. And we wouldn't need antibiotics if we had good health, such as eating hemp seeds, and they didn't make money off of our sickness. And I can't help the fact that I need fucking shoes to go to work and live in this fucking society i'm not going to give up and just die you ret*d... seriously, nothing literally NOTHING you said works against me, because you completely miss the point... we DO NOT NEED MACHINES!... but in the state that the world is in right NOW, we do!.. but do we need more? "Name the greatest invention", remember that class?.. every kid does that.. but all the greatest inventions were invented long before machines..

I do not consider my self to be typical. I also do not have a typical education as you seem to presume. You have indicated that if I utilize typical arguments, which is not my intent, to win this argument, which I have no interest in simply winning or losing, then I am a drone in your interpretation. Perhaps we can both be satisfied that I am not a drone then. Its up to you really, you can believe me to be a drone and I can believe myself to be a butterfly if I so choose. I agree that "some" power plants and "some" chemicals can be toxic to our environment. Human waste can also be toxic to our water supplies. Antibiotics are utilized primarily for infection. Just because you are healthy does not make one immune from infection. As I stated before, I like hemp and am pro-marijuana. Are you aware that excessive emotion can hinder our faculties of reason? Or is your use of exclamatory motions, language and capital letters some form of subversion? I never said "we" need machines. Necessity is another relative term. One "needs" something in order to perform a function. For the function would be inoperable without the required component. Our wants and desires matter to. Yours, and mine. Personally, I want to live a very long time. If I am required to forgo some type of transition or transformation in the process, I will. I love machines as I love my fellow beings because as I have stated, people are machines to, many of us have simply not formed the connections or associations to realize this. I doubt that you have any conception (other than the one you have already stated) of what I may or may not have learned in 5th grade even if I attended 5th grade. I do not remember that class. Since I do not remember that class, I believe it fair to say that not "every kid does that". I believe the greatest invention is sentience and consciousness, after this I would say the advent of fire, language, and the wheel.

But seriously Shawnwilliam, how can you be "anti-machine?" Machines are the engines that power societal change, look at the computer, it revolutionized communication and information availability, it was truly a device that broadened our horizons and opened up our worlds. How do you see that as something that needs to be abolished?

I cannot say I rely on my computer. At work...yes. I need it to get my job done. At home no. We all use them mostly as entertainment. I've recently suggested we get rid of the phone, internet, and cable to save money because we don't really need them anyway. I seem to be the only one who thinks it is a good idea.

It was quite well known in Columbus' time that the world was round. What he was seeking was fast passage to India.

The curvature of the earth is perceptible from elevations such as cliffs overlooking sea and the effect is perceived in ships and cities becoming visible over the horizon. You see the masts and tops of buildings first. This is the point of having a man in the crows nest; he could see further over the horizon.

I'm not sure where you are in the states, but you could visit the statue of liberty in New York. Go to the crown(or torch level if you can) and look out to sea. You will see the effect on calm days.

For people in Canada, The CN tower can illustrate the same effect. Look out over the great lakes.

Maybe someone in the UK could verify this with the cliffs of Dover?

It would be interesting to see out the window of some of those sky scrapers in Dubai. The effect would be very pronounced.
