I don’t consider it much of a problem. People are expected to remember all sorts of things, such as names.

When I was a kid, our teacher would say Kyle R or Kyle B because they both had the same name. Plus they asked us what name we preferred to make it less confusing. There was once another girl in my class with the same name but she went by Liz.

So I guess even I underestimated the length the wokes will go to expand definitions in order to entrap people for cancelation purposes. We keep on being told the expanded definitions are descriptive and not meant to necessarily judge the offender as a bad person. And yet this person apparently got in trouble at work for it.

Over the last 20 years I've actually had run ins with LGBTQI, indigenous and students with mental health issues as a tutor because I did not use appropriate language or used case studies which were ignorant to their sensitivities. The outcome of these is I try to learn.

Yes, members of all these groups can be quite vocal about their self-awareness or activism re: interactions. However, the idea you can be cancelled is overblown. Any rationale person knows the difference between legitimate ignorance (for example not capitalising the word "Aboriginal") and intentional ignorance.

I honestly respect your intellect AS, but I don't know why you want to get into bed with Dox, Raptor and Glitch over this? the critical ingredient here is intent.

Intentional ignorance is being hurtful because you want to stand your ground on your right to say whatever you want. The latter is a problem and you'll notice those who have been cancelled in the media it's glaringly obvious their intent was to be funny at the expense of the group they were denigrating.

People do have name tags too. Even our classes used them and we all had signs on our desks with our names.

I think people are kind of lazy.

Musicians, such as pianists playing piano concertos, are supposed to remember long pieces of music. In pre-literacy days, people memorized long epic poems.

If people want to be sensitive to the identity and experiences of others, using the right terms is not a lot to ask. It’s quite doable.

It can help at first, but teachers should be able to remember all their kids names after about a week. I know the names of lots of kids in my school.

Memorizing a couple of pronouns is much less work.

It requires very little effort. Most of us are capable of that.

The number of times I get the gender wrong because a student has an asian name or an ambiguous name like Jamie or Charlie or Brook (i'm sure there are better examples). But it's hardly worth protesting in the streets over.

I agree intent is the key. If you are intentionally using the wrong pronoun or deadname you are not being anti woke you are just being rude.

I am talking about unintentionally.

We are talking about identity that is important to people. Autistic identity is important to me. I don’t go around correcting every person who uses “person with Autism”. I don’t conclude that every person who uses “person with autism” is ableist. Doing that is waste of time and energy and my mental health. Those people do not change my confidence in who I am. If they do the problem is not them.

The human mind can only retain so much, you add another thing to remember the greater chance of making an error.

I have enough trouble remembering names, never mind pronouns.

Judge me as a transphobic hater if you want but I still think there is nothing wrong if a person uses correct names and no pronouns as a strategy with the intent of not offending.

On an autism forum people should not assume laziness, after all most of us have been wrongly accused of it many times. On an autism forum people should be more understanding of difficulty with change. IMHO this change in understanding of gender is more of a radical change then the civil rights and feminist movements. It gets more to the core of who one is then skin color or genitals.

One can be a conservative----and hate Trump.

One can be a liberal------and be wary of some of the "woke" ideology.

It's really not all black and white. I doubt very much that ASPartofme is in "league" with Dox, Raptor, and all the rest. He's his own person.

If anyone can conceive that I'm in "league" with the conservative posters because I object to one facet of "woke" ideology, then I would deem that person out of his/her mind.

It's not for the teachers, it's also for other students too and those who have a hard time remembering names which is normal for ASD.

That distinction is beyond quite a few posters here, the idea everything isn't binary and people might hold positions on the merits rather than out of tribal partisanship.
