Yes excellent point. I posted this topic for anyone to post their opinions, not just the scientific ones.

y'know Ruveyn, scientific dogma doesn't help us discover new interactions or anything.

It is not dogma. It is sound physics based on 300 years of solid evidence gathering.

Physics is founded, first and foremost on empirical evidence, not on new age woo woo.

ruveyn,
We already know you don't approve of new age woo woo, as you call it. But some of us enjoy it. Aspiewriter has asked us to speculate on the Akashic Field, a wonderful topic for those of us less scientifically inclined. Will you please just let us do that without judgments that we lack empirical precision and the like?.....unless you want to relate scientific facts in a positive way to the new age woo woo.

Science can, at times, be very dogmatic and closed-minded.

The only solid judgments are either mathematical (backed up by proof) or scientific (backed up by experiment). Everything else is either ka ka. tiddldy-winks or metaphysical speculation.

If it ain't science and it ain't math it is probably nonsense.

Nonsense - one doesn't predict wars, economic expansion, or a thousand other valuable phenomena using only math and science. Sometimes those work, but other times, they are pretty useless while a gut feeling works much better. One doesn't hire someone or make/end a relationship using positron collider technology. Human experience cannot be reduced to equations; the world is not always amenable to experiments; and judgment and wisdom are valuable.

OK. Then I must say this -- is there scientific proof of God? I grew up a Christian and still believe. You cannot see God, but I believe he exists. I have an open mind.

Is this the same thing that is supposed to make remote viewing work? While the concept of ether is long out of sytle, space is still much viewed as empty. I think it is possible it is not.

Well space isn't exactly empty empty. Although an OP referenced zero point energy as a possible analog to the Akashic field, which I don't think makes any sense, it is nonetheless a real thing; empty space has a non-zero energy, and virtual particles come and go constantly; see vacuum energy. I don't think this lends any credence to the Akashic field however.

Then I must say this - are you really asking an atheist for scientific proof of god?

EDIT: And the answer to your question is obviously NO.

Sounds similar to the zero-point-field. I don't think there is an indivdial or organism who could extract any meaningful historical information from said field however.

Then I will stick to my beliefs, and stand back, shake my head at those who choose not to open their minds to unseen possibilities of our universe.

Shoot, there goes my irony meter. Hmm, I'll have to respond to the latter part of a previous reply you made.

Oh? In that case I'll just convert on the spot then. I mean, personal incredulity is an amazingly rational argument.

I'd be as impressed if you told me that you still believe in Santa Claus.

Look 'hun, you can believe in the Ashkenazi field or whatever it is. Knowing the limitations of humans, I'm fine with that, as long as you don't enforce them upon me. I will tolerate but I will never respect them.

Sorry for the rant, but having spoken to so many theists over the years who go to great lengths to justify their beliefs is really getting to me.

And that quote from Aristotle is a perfect quote. I don't want to force anything I believe down anyone's throat. That wasn't my intent. I wanted this particular thread to be an open discussion, not a closed one. I apologize if I have offended anyone.

Why all the hostility? Why do you care what people believe? No one will ever think just like you. Take a look around at all the cultures and how different people are. If everyone disrespected people who were inferior in their eyes then people would just be mean to one another. That doesn't sound like a nice thing, to have people being mean to one another. :eye:

It's rude and immature to disrespect people for having different beliefs than yours. Maybe that is why some will go to great lengths to justify their beliefs in god to you? If you disrespect people because you think they are stupid then what do you expect? Should they just sit there and let you disrespect them. As they see it, you don't understand what you disrespect. And even if a person is stupid, he/she still is worthy of respect.

There are some viewpoints that are so easily seen to be out of sync with reality that not much respect can be granted. Any idea must have legs to stand on and it is the business of a discussion to flatten any idea that cannot stand up to criticism.

This is the first I have ever heard of the Akashic Field, and I can already tell that it's just another bizarre thing for people to believe in even though there's no proof of it whatsoever.
