I just wonder why everyone refers to AI, how about Blade Runner.
Magnus is this robot going to be for all practical purposes indistinguishable from a human? If so then the concept is mind boggling. The idea of shacking up with a machine is fairly off putting, but if we are talking replicant as in Blade Runner, Rachael would pass for a human in every way.
With true intelligent sentience, there shouldn't be any difference between a robot and a person. If your consciousness is created and maintained by a flesh created EM field, or by an electronically created one, it's still a consciousness. At that point the only difference would be in personality.
Looking deeper, you can show that human emotions and thoughts and moods are affected by the neurotransmitters and chemicals, whereas I'd imagine you could maniuplate an electronic mind the same way with differing electromagnetic influences. It honestly doesn't seem to be any different to me than it would be from a human. Just another consciousness in a different shell.
Oh btw, Dr. Nefarious (Ratchet and Clank) is a great example of a sentient robot, imo ^_~
