Well that's nice but I think that would be consider racism not nationalism.

You do realize too that white people could even be jews and arabs right? The group you're probably referring to in America is the Anglo Saxons.

If all you have for pride is in being white then you must be pretty poverty stricken for accomplishments.

Who are you responding to?

If it's me then you got me wrongly pegged....

Are you proud of being white?

Am I proud of being white?

Well I'm not proud but I'm also not angry.

I think the most important question I would ask myself is am I proud of being me which is a no.

But hey not everyone wins.

BTW, why do you ask? :?

Well then, try being someone else. How about Bill Gates? He seems to be doing well. Two of him might take some of the work load off the original.

i thought they were the same thing. i frequently see nationalism as racism, i have no problem with one liking what color skin they are. if i was a black dude i'd be all proud of being black. but im not..

Is loyalty and devotion to ones country good to have just because you are born in that particular country? No, since you can't choose where you are born. In the womb, you basically can't make any decisions about any aspects of your life, where you are born is an aspect of your life so you can't decide where you are born. So, being loyal to ones country on the basis of it being your place of birth is improper.

The implication here (by extension) is that it’s improper to be loyal towards anything based on an accident of birth over which you had no control. I disagree. You cannot choose who your mother, father, brother or sister are, but I don’t think it would be improper to be loyal towards them. (Not mandatory, of course, but certainly not improper.)

The analogy I think is appropriate, since the natural basis for a nation is racial, and race is just an extension of family. Some might say that nations that are not race-based entities should not really be called nations at all, but something else (maybe countries, states or empires).

Of course it’s certainly possible to be loyal to a country that is not a race-based.

Actually, in richardbenson’s first post, he didn’t mention anything about pride, let alone whiteness being his only source of same, but it looks like you just couldn’t help yourself.

And to MissConstrue, it’s quite difficult to get definitions of ‘racism’ from people, so thank you for providing one: when a White person has positive feelings about their own race, that’s racism.
That’s kind of what I’ve long suspected.

But aside from my perception, is freedom something to be valued? According to Eleanor Roosevelt, "Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry is own weight, this is a frightening prospect." If it is true that freedom is inseparable from responsibility, then if freedom is removed then so is responsibility.

I don't think freedom and responsibility always go hand in hand.
For example, a person who starts a family loses some freedom and gains some responsibility.
