Ok then. No background checks. Shermans sold at dealer's discretion, only $595,000.95!

Why. A government can be forced, by the people, to live within its means.

You have it the wrong way. The people can be forced, by the government, to live within their means. People are easily manipulated animals.

What source? All I see is an editorialist throwing out a number, I don't see any source quoted for that number. If I had to guess, he's probably going off of a discredited book called Arming America, which received all sorts of accolades from academia until it was discovered that the author had falsified most of his research.

I hate these threads. I wasted my time giving my opinions on various topics with the discussion descending into pure tribalism. No. I won't have any more of it!

Stop corporate influence in government.

Make strict laws for fishing, tree cutting, agriculture, ect. And, if those rules are broken, extreme consequences are to be ruled or if a corporation, shut down.

Ban cars and removing many roads around the nation. And instead, make nationwide transportation and have it be as efficient as it would be with having a car.

Have the entire country get it's energy by wind power.

Health care open to everybody and no more paying for it!

A much more improved education system.

Become a more resource based economy with capitalism being only about 25% to 40% economic base.

Make sure that everybody is able to have a livable wage.

Higher taxes on the more wealthy and no exceptions of trying to not have to pay them, would not be allowed!

Eliminate real-estate. Instead, have more skyscrapers with each floor being a home. This would reduce the natural land being destroyed by real-estate.

Nationwide gay-marriage.

Take religion out of government and keep religious views out of government. Yes, I'm a Christian, but, I do know that this is not supposed to be a Christian-Based country and that it doesn't belong in government.

Population regulations.

And a lot more!!

The electoral college is used to ensure that the outcome of elections are not determined solely by major cities so that rural areas get represented too.

Nah, it really doesn't do that. When is the last time anyone gave a damn about how Wyoming went in a Presidential election? Florida and Ohio matter more, particularly the urban districts in both.

Think about this: if you are a Republican living someplace like Massachusetts or California, your vote does not count at all in Presidential elections. Same if you're a Democrat living in Georgia or Alabama. In the winner-take-all system, candidates have an incentive to ignore the concerns of huge swathes of the population in favor of pandering to a few key demographics in a few key districts.

I was thinking the same thing. That claim was disproven.

Have you thought about how you are going to PAY for all that or would you be like Obama and put it on the national debt and let the next generation figure out how to pay for it?

what part of "Higher taxes on the wealthy and no exceptions..." is not clear? nothing in life ever "trickles down" 'cept for rain and woes.

It's one thing to have taxes, but what some people here are suggesting would require sacking everyone making more than $50k/yr and taxing away corporation's profits until they can't afford to grow.

Have you ever considered that the rich people earned their money and it is rightfully theirs?

warren buffet recently admitted that his hired help pay a higher proportion of their salaries in taxes than he ever did. how can this be a good thing? the working class works harder for their meager money than the upper class could ever imagine. why should only the "little people" pay much of what little they make, in taxes? progressive taxation is the only thing in the public policy maker's toolkit that can begin to address the problem of unequal access to society's resources, of which rich people generally get more than their share.
should the tea partiers get their wish, that only those with fat wallets should have access to police and fire protection, public parks, health care, libraries, polling place access, etc.? you may consider that kind of stinking dystopia to be heaven on earth, but that is just not my cup of tea.

The American revolution was undertaken partly because the people who favored independence were as well armed as British Troops. If the population of the Colonies were disarmed the Revolution never would have happened.

I'm quite thrilled to see an innovative account of power and cultural dynamics in America based on a preindustrial, agricultural, 18th century, agrarian social reality.

Its not like as if he could acknowledge the key role that the French played in arming our troops and helping fight the war.

The French made the difference between winning a losing. But the availability of arms was a necessary condition for even undertaking the fight for independence. Without the guns, there never would have been a Lexington and Concord.

European countries have universal health care open to everyone and still they have the same productivity as US. Some countries like France have productivity even higher than the US. ( http://www.euractiv.com/en/innovation/m ... cle-128521 ). It seems that their corporations haven´t stopped to grow there.
