Seriously you can end up in serious trouble in Canada if someone finds what you say "offensive."

Please, you may think that learning history and math from Fox News is cool and hip, but don't, please don't learn computer-related concepts from them, because you are horribly confused.

wouldn't take much for them to defund whatever organization that tries to pull a stunt like that (likely the FCC).

ID systems, COICA all are pretty bipartisan attempts to make the internet less free.

Republicans seem to be more interested in defending PP and energy research than the actual elephant in the room (the military).

No, you don't. You don't even understand your own country

Contary to the assertions of another poster, this is *not* carte blanche for the government to restrict speech

From one of your sources

Yeah? Then how come here in Quebec the provincial government is rewriting history to favor the FLQ terrorists and hide the fact that they're murderers?
You have an incredibly skewed view of our freedoms. I live in the least free place in Canada and I still probably have it better then you
Frankly, if you use 'the National Review' as your source on things Canadian, you are truly misguided. Go read the Canadian charter of Freedoms

So they'll kidnap over a million people, will they?

Don't be stupid. Obviously not. If you're going to try and debate me, at least understand what I'm saying instead of foaming at the mouth and making silly accusations

Point is, they ain't gonna do anything to so many people, especially when a lot of them live outside the US. They're more likely to pick out key people from the information they get and go after them/put them on watch lists/whatever.

That is precisely what I meant

Then we're in agreement, nothing to debate :P

I wonder what the US government would think of my Facebook profile, anyway. The name is fake, there's basically no personally identifiable photos, and it says I go to Hogwarts :P

@ Vigilans

That explains why the defendants in these so-called hate speech cases have to pay for their own defense which is expensive and the accuser is funded by the Government.

If you think assigned defense attorneys would even do a good job. IMO the only job defense attorneys tend to have is to listen to the crown and try and make a plea bargain
In any case, in 2009 section 13.1 (the particular part of the CHRC that draws controversy) is not valid anymore. The case you cited was from before the end of 13.1

When was it repealed cause from what I read the court that ruled it invalid didn't have the authority to make that case.

*wondering how hard it would be to organize a private invasion force to take Mexico as new America*

Day dreaming can be very weird sometimes.

Though he didn't take Mexico, I recommend you look into William Walker, an American adventurer who became unlawful president of Nicaragua in the 19th century and was later overthrown and executed by Central American opposition

Kind of on a different tangent and kind of related: I've started watching the Man in the White Castle and I keep thinking about this country (the US) and what it might be like if we keep going down this road of loss of privacy, lists of 'persons of interest' etc.
