Natty Boh - Put a couple six-packs of your namesake in the cooler and do NOT bother going to the mountain top - you hit 30 but the world goes on.

And on and on and some days you wish it hadn't - but mostly it is no worse than the first 30 on average, perhaps a notch better.

I'm actually looking forward to the particular milestone - long since hit the one where you realize that getting older can actually be a good thing. Only odd part is realizing that since I'm the youngest, all of my immediate family will be past that particular line. And yet life will struggle on. :)

30 was pretty good - I had turned an important corner so things were starting to look up, and - though I did not know it - I was only about a year away from getting to know my first Like Mind. Actually finding out I was NOT the only refugee from Krypton here!

I took the post as asking did we fear cosmic disaster in 2012 - which I don't, at least no more thasn any other year.

If you turn it to do I fear crazy unreasoning people - well, the answer is yes, everyday, and I doubt the year matters to the probability of nutters any more than to meteors.

i can't help but wonder about 2012, but not much sense worrying. if it happens we're screwed, if it doesn't we have another chance to start nuclear war / begin a golden age of peace and understanding.. not much to do but wait and see. personally, i think any of those scenarios would be exciting ;)

Best case scenerio: We live and I have to finish my masters.

Worst case: We die and go to heaven. Or not. Either way, I won't be worrying.

 Back during the Y2K scare, I was mostly worried about never getting to go to college. Then came college finals...and I just wanted the world to end. Right away.

No. The movie did well enough and it's kind of in the past now. :P

some basic thoughts-
december 21, 2012 is a point of no return. the big question is "what is the nature of this point of no return?" maybe mankind will have crossed an invisible demarcation between being able to fix our combined problems, and having passed the point of repair. maybe the growing population will tip humanity past a point of sustenance- who knows for sure if the earth can support much beyond 7 billion humans and their stuff in general- we are at [approx.] 6.9 billion as of now, with 7+ billion projected sometime this summer. whatever you believe about global warming, a hotter [and more crowded] earth will at least be a less pleasant place overall and quite possibly have more extreme weather in general, with less temperate climes and more storminess, less survival essentials [per human] and more shortages. does any of us know what this will do to the earth's support system that humanity relies upon? can all 7+ billion humans survive insufficient food and clean water? what happens when the oceans rise by 6+ feet? overpopulation is the crazy aunt in the basement that nobody wants to talk about. wouldn't it be better if these teeming billions were not simply sloughed off by earth, like a mere infestation?

If the earth could survive the Siberian and Deccan Traps it can survive the human race.

Don't worry - the Powers - the New Style Electoral College which does not need to concern itself with representation, that rund both the Anointed and thde Loyal Opposition, will; not rock the boat by putting anything capable of serious independent thought in the White House. That was tried once and failed, and they have not repeated it despite some errors in judgement.

It will be business as usual and Big Brother will take care of everything.

the distressing thing is that big brother red will take care only of his red buddies, and leave the blues to rot or worse.

That is different. The Human Race is both smart enough and stupid enough to kill itself off.
