Would you vote for Ron Paul if he ran?
can someone explain to me how Ron paul is "hostile to the working class"?
if you are refering to minimum wage...then I would have to combat by saying that your dollars will be worth more when they are not being printed as fast as toilet paper.
(I am a fan of removing the federal reserve, it's the cause of many economic problems within our nation)

Something tells me you claim to support Ron now, but then will turn around if he is the Republican nominee and vote for Obama.
Really, Ron Paul doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning in a Presidential Election.
From what I understand, skafather grew disillusioned with RP's brand of libertarianism some time ago and ceased supporting him. His most recent post was unambiguously critical of Paul.
And I certainly don't recall seeing Ska singing Obama's praises. Ever.
Some time ago grants too much time between my support and when I realized where I was wrong. I was a supporter of his for a few months before he declared and supported and contributed to his running (including money at different times, including his first money bomb). I was a big supporter until after he lost and after the election where I started to re-evaluate his Austrian economic theory and how those concepts applied to the world, at large. At that point, I started to realize that he was wrong...his concepts regarding controlling spending were correct but the means were so horrifically wrong that if they were put into place, it'd essentially ruin a good 40% of the American public.
I still believe he's pretty honest about what he believes but I think he's got it dead wrong on some key issues that are more important now than ever and if he were to implement his view of the economy from the federal side, he'd essentially destroy the economy of the country from the point of view that we have no real manufacturing sector as we used to and we rely much more heavily on more managerial personnel to make it into the workplace here. At least, more managerial in terms of legitimate business and not simply just circulatory commerce between peoples, communities, and states. Though, this cycle has been corrupted by how national and multinational chains operate and acquire private business deals that grant them bargains beyond the mom & pop retailers to just the large corporations where ownership is held by a few.
I still think he's largely right in regards to our foreign entanglements and that our intrusive foreign policy breeds the kind of contempt that grows to the point of such horrific acts here as we've seen at Fort Hood and 9/11. But I think he neglects what causes those entanglements and he's not entirely honest to himself and his constituents about why they're necessary and what other options we have (and what those options really mean for us as a country).

The federal reserve can be managed and reigned in without its destruction just as a junkie can quit heroin without first dying. It requires the right kind of will power, though..and I still believe that this can be achieved democratically.

I can't speak for others but I reluctantly cast my vote for Bob Barr over the republican or democratic candidate. I really wish I had cast my vote for Cynthia McKinney now that I've really been able to look at the whole picture more clearly but....there it is: I voted for a pseudo-republican in Bob Barr.

true it could be used as such but that would mean the people would own it and as it stands now we have never determined ourselves how the federal reserve behaves. Or possibly it could be run by a mathematical formula/computer simulations...

One only has to understand the basic ideas of Keynesian economics and his idea of what constitutes a free market to understand how the Federal Reserve could and should be used correctly with our current monetary system and how it's being abused for (ultimately) destructive ends. I wouldn't trust computer simulations because that's more of simply a reactionary position and reactionary is partially what has brought us to this point. One has to simply understand the correct steering philosophies and apply them as needed and be pro-active as needed.

He doesn't believe in the right of Trade unions to organize and collectively bargain and he doesn't believe in funding social programmes or any income redistribution. The effects of having a Ron Paul presidency would be little different to the effects of having an Ayn Rand one. Just look at the sons name for christ sake! Why would any Socialist or progressive vote for Ron when they can vote for Kucinich? Basically i just don't believe what you and Jacoby believe on economic policy and voting for a Paul would ruin both me, and society in general. Income inequality and working hours would grow and wages would decline.
I concur with Ron Paul's views on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and many of his views on civil-liberties issues, but if Ron Paul is skeptical of evolution (well, beyond the healthy scientific/philosophical skepticism of any theory and evidence), that would put him a bit too much in the socially/religiously conservative camp for my taste. I also know he used to publish a newsletter that had some racist commentary in it (whether he actually wrote it himself is a matter of debate); that's a big negative.
We really disagree when we get into economic views. Ron Paul is of the Austrian school, and from my admittedly limited understanding of economics, I support more neo-Keynesian policies. I would not abolish the Federal Reserve and return to the gold standard. I also support social welfare and a role for the government in regulating business.
Ron Paul made an interesting move in trying to court liberals, building a sort of "liberaltarian" coalition, but differences remain substantial.
