He doesn't have to be stupid per se, but he definitely struggles with the English language.

How many books have you published?

Is that the new benchmark for intelligence?

Of course. If it's committed to a book then it must be true.

While Newt Gingrich might have academic aptitude and perhaps even high native intelligence, any cursory glance at the man reveals someone who revels in wilful idiocy, at least when it comes to very, very modern politics and religious matters.

I must say, though, I'm glad to see that ruveyn has bumped his "standard measure of creative genius" up from having a pilot's license to having penned a book.

The ability to pilot a plane does not prove genius. It merely proves non-stupidity.

Can you pilot a plane? I can. I have a license which is not lapsed. My flying days are over since my hand to eye coordination is no longer what it used to be.

I heard recently that he feared America was becoming an atheist nation. I doubt he's even that religious. He's just trying to play to the fears of the war on Christmas crowd to get those votes. 5% of Americans identifying as Atheist doesn't really qualify this country as being dominated by Atheism. I think organized religion is declining, but that's a good thing and not really indicative of lack of belief in some creative force, just lack of belief in emotionally exploitative institutions.

The difference between an atheist and theist in regards to which point of view requires more faith is that when the atheist is asked questions like, "Where did the universe come from?" they can reply, "I don't know" whereas a theist must present his absolute belief.

Kinda hypocritical, you trusted Clinton to run this country, and unlike Clinton, Newt didn't lie before a Federal Grand Jury (in other words he didn't commit perjury).

Gingrich banged some women who weren't his wife because it was for the love of his country, these liberals need to stfu right?

Gingrich did not commit perjury, Clinton did. The affairs are irrelevant, the question here is whether or not the President is above the law.

Hm, past events in US history tend to show that Presidents are above the law, de facto, if not de jure
The whole Clinton-reference argument is diversionary anyways and irrelevant. The point is Gingrich is not honest, and actually committed far more serious acts of adultery then Clinton, and then tried painting them as somehow resulting from his pent-up patriotic stress. If you were actually being skeptical about politics, this would be setting your BS meter off- 10 minutes ago

I thought the question was if he was stupid? How did we start shouting about felonies?

Every time someone says something negative about a Republican someone inevitably starts foaming about Clinton's indiscretions well over a decade ago. It seems this is going to be driven into the dust someday. Why don't the Democrats ever wheel out Nixon? Surely as relevant, no?

They are claiming that Newt shouldn't be President because he had an affair, yet these same individuals have no problem with Clinton being President and he not only had affairs, he also lied under oath before a Federal Grand Jury, which is a felony. Newt Gingrich did not lie under oath before a Federal Grand Jury.

I thought they were saying Newt Gingrich shouldn't be President because he was stupid, and a hypocrite. Either way, the American public gets to decide who the President is, and Newt has about the same chance as Trump - so why the furious debate over a non-issue?

That isn't the issue at all, stop diverting it with this Clinton nonsense. I do have a problem with him having an affair, but that is besides the point. New Gingrich is a dishonest man and he tries laying the responsibility for his infidelity on his 'love of America'
This has nothing to do with Clinton, but with Gingrich being full of it

Piloting a small plane is not that hard under normal conditions. Even landing a plane - the worst part - is not that hard. As a bar for basic intelligence, it's pretty low.
