You don't want to tax the rich too much for the very good reason that if you tax rich people too much, they will probably decide that it isn't worth the effort of working their backs off in the first place if it's just going to get taken off them.

Where's the incentive for them to work hard and contribute if the government is just going to take a large chunk of it off them straight away?

We're not talking about billionaires. Billionaires are extremely rare. We're talking about people with small businesses and the like - those who employ people locally and keep the local community in work. They are the kind of people that would be considered 'rich'.

Even if you take money from the corporations, there still wouldn't be enough. I do think that government is much too close to big business though and is often not representative of the people.
