Problem with that argument is that Gingrich actually balanced the budget before, Romney reminds me of a used car salesman.

Funny, but I don't see him selling cars at one of those 30% pay forever lots; maybe something more upscale like a Honda Dealership.

Gore had social security in a lock box and came from an administration with a surplus, but it didn't stop Bush, who I could see selling cars at the GM dealership; and maybe the used car lot, from winning.

Flash means more than substance in politics. Gingrich is the Business manager in the BMW dealership that you only get to see for a few minutes. While, Obama is the salesperson that sold you your BMW, that you are not likely to forget for several years. Will you remember the Business Manager? Not likely.

Better off, I think with the Salesperson from the Honda Dealership, than the Business Manager at the BMW Dealership. The sales person makes more of an impact, even if the Business Manager provided the means for you to purchase your vehicle.

If Obama were a used car salesman, he'd be selling Ford Pintos.

Trying to sell Ford Pinto's is one thing but selling Ford Pintos is a sales feat that I'm not sure anyone could top. He has charisma, but you might be giving him too much credit here. I remember those Ford Pinto's; they were real bombs.

Oh, so that's why even prior to Bush's election there were books about "Bushisms" complete with photos of him enunciating so as to mock him? I think the reason why he was elected in 2000 was because everyone had already had enough of Billary Clinton and Al Gore. In 2004, his only serious competition was a dimwit who denigrated the people of the US Armed Forces on national television. In 2008 the housing market had difficulties which rippled throughout the rest of the economy and this was blamed on the Republican Bush, so in addition to the antiwar hippie rhetoric and promises of nebulous "change" people voted Demwit rather than for the Republicrat McCain. I voted for McCain personally, but my vote counts for nothing against 151 million Demwits. Now, America is stuck with Obama for, hopefully only, until 2013 in January (or at worst until 2017 in January, but I would hope not.)

Lovable morons do exist. Just look at Jerry Ford or Homer Simpson or Glenn Beck.

Unlovable morons would be proven to exist if Obama is actually reelected. Over half of the American population would necessarily fit into that category, which is frightening to say the least. Another four years of "recovery", yay.... Oh I sure hope not.

You do realize the problems with the economy are due to laissez-faire economics, right? That's a republican platform that Obama's been conceding to.

What? You seriously think this is due to lack of government involvement in the economy? What?!

Obama's massive stimulus bill and continued bailouts, passed without any help from Republicans, were hardly laissez faire economics.

In the three months since Obama compromised with the Republicans' demands not to increase tax rates, unemployment has dropped from 9.8% to 8.8%, falling at an annualized rate of 4% per year. Conceding to sensible Republicans like Boehner and Ryan pretty clearly the best way to get the economy going again.

It is, there was no oversight or enforcement for the scant regulations there were and there was no regulation that functionally prevented predatory lending and the slight of hand that many of the economic monsters used.

Ford failed on their own by not having the government demand they put out a product with legitimate standards and progressive goals for combustion.

The money is effectively being redistributed to the upper classes and that cannot happen in a consumer driven economy like our own. There is no trickle down, there is no regulation to protect jobs from being shipped overseas, the infrastructure certainly isn't being maintained and upgraded by these private people who want to have all the money but do little with it other than what their whims deem actionable.

If you study the numbers, you would find that the unemployment numbers are bogus, they dropped a couple hundred thousand people off rolls and then claimed unemployment had gone down when those people still can't find a job.

Down here in the South and in the Midwest the Good 'ole boy charm wins many elections. Bush perfected in from those folks in Texas. A mistake in speech isn't necessarily seen as a gaffe, with those that vote for good 'ole boys; just one more lovable quality that can be shared and related to at the local bar or church. It is a comforting feeling for many to be talked to instead of talked down to. I think there are many that still believe that none of it was an act.

The times he was unwittingly caught on microphone, he presented a much different personna.

He went to Yale; he wasn't always like that.

He also had quick reflexes and nerves of steel, as evidenced by the shoe throwing incident.

He might have been able to sell someone a Ford Pinto, but it is the skill that was needed, to relate to those in his target audience. He sold the Iraq war, that was one heck of a Ford Pinto.

Sarah has the good 'ole boy/girl charm, "you betcha", but she is too unique to be putting on an act.

Disclaimer: There is nothing wrong with being a good 'ole boy/girl, going to church, or having a beer or two at the local bar. Some of the happiest people I've ever known.

Both the lower portion (I-10 all the way through with a stop in Ft. Stockton) and upper portion (Dallas, Longview, etc etc).

I think I see where you are going with this, (texico?), but twenty or so years ago when Bush was Governor of Texas things weren't quite the same. However, his bilingual capabilities and ability to garner Republican Support from the Hispanic community, in itself, might have made the difference in the '00 election.

There are many ingredients associated with influence, that can be easily discounted, when someone says the wrong word in a speech. Bush might not have been the perfect intellect, but he was the perfect Republican canidate, with just the right amount and kind of Charisma and Personna, back in '00, along with other factors. He was the Republican answer to the Clinton Administration. One of his most valuable assets was his last name. .

Unfortunately, now, it doesn't look like an advantage for brother Jeb.
