President Obama releases the long form copy of his birth cer

That isn't a fact at all, that is an opinion and a stupid one at that. Maybe people genuinely don't like Obama because he has been a huge liar and a terrible president?
Also, if his father was German they'd probably just say he was descendent of Nazis. Don't see how it would be any different.

I don't recall anybody questioning the citizenship of Dubya, Clinton, George the First, Reagan, Carter (almost certainly honest, but a terrible president), Ford, Nixon, LBJ, Kennedy....
Yet here we get a president who provided certification that he was born in the United States, something required of no president before him - and it was still regarded as insufficient. Previous presidents who have been accused of lying to us (and in some cases have been proved to have lied to us) have been Democrat and Republican, from wealthy backgrounds and poor, Catholic and several brands of Protestant. The only difference I can find between Obama and the others is that every previous president has been Caucasian. This is, of course, not proof positive, but the data are suggestive...
How many of them had foreign-born fathers and lived outside the US as a child? I think that probably has a lot more to do with it than his skin color.
If you're gonna have crazy issues thrown at you like this as a president, you could have some maturity about it. Looking back it does seem the better choice would've been to just show the certificate and move on. Obama's lack of class as a President is rearing its ugly head once again.
He showed the legal certificate long ago. There is no requirement to show a "long form" version. If there was, Hillary and McCain would have made an issue of it. This is fringe internet stuff.
Lest we forget, at one point something north of 40% of registered Democrats once polled as believing that George W Bush was complicit in the 9/11 attacks.

Partisanship can make people believe some pretty crazy things, and though some birthers are doubtlessly racially motivated, to ascribe that as the primary motivator for all of them is simplistic and naive.

This would be a non-issue if the broadcast media weren't so desperate for viewers and listeners.
Mr. Obama could have asked the state of Hawai'i to give him the "Long Form" in the beginning, and maybe the birthers would have been less vocal. But here are a few things to consider: Mr. Obama has no known history of adultery, illegitimate children, alcoholism, drug abuse (he does smoke tobacco, however), gang activity, embezzlement ... nothing illegal. Now the birthers are trying to dig up his college records to see if his grades were obtained honestly, or if he had joined any 'weird' fraternities, or if he had any emotional issues while earning his degree.
Some folks are desperate to find something to disqualify this nation's first black president from staying in office. Why not just wait another year or so and vote him out instead?
He certainly can do no worse than his predecessor... ![]()

I think it's a good time to share this,
McCain is not running for an office where citizenship is a requirement.

Oh, so one can be an illegal Panama immigrant and a sitting Senator. Who knew?
Both of McCain's parents were American citizens, so he could have been born in Timbuktu and still be a natural-born US citizen. Also, the Panama Canal Zone was US territory at the time.
You do realize that the entire post was sarcastic, right?
What's unfortunate about the whole issue is the impression it leaves on black Americans. Those of us who have seen a few elections are accustomed to stupid people saying stupid things. There will always be morons and you simply can't fix what their parents couldn't fix. But with this charge they are leaving black Americans with the impression that no matter what they achieve (Magna Cum Laude at Harvard, the Presidency, etc), some white people will still treat them as a second class citizens, ask for additional papers beyond the legal standard, etc.
It's an unfortunate talking point from that perspective.
I enjoy laughing at it and making fun of the trash who believed it. But it's not a joke to some.

I said I was willing to concede that not all birthers were racially motivated, but I simply can't believe that only some of them are racists.
As for the 9/11 truthers - I'm a life long Democrat, and I always thought the truthers were nuts.

Sadly, you're absolutely correct. As a matter of fact, other than health care reform and patching up our image around the world, one of the main reasons why I voted for Obama (and will vote for him again) is the fact that he has a seriously gigantic brain in his cranium. I very much respect his intellectuality and education. And that's a major reason why I so despise cretins like Bachmann and Palin and their ilk who seem to glory in the fact that they don't know anything.

Funny, partisan Democrats in previous presidential elections haven't accused the candidates of being foreign born, despite John McCain being born in the Panama Cannal (which, while US territory, is every bit as "suspicious" to your average ignoramuses as being born in the US state of Hawaii in 1961). Claiming that race isn't a factor when something so unprecedented in recent history has never happened is head-in-the-sand naive.
Regardless of what the base thought, most Democrats (even in very progressive districts) took flack from 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists rather than enable them (I'd also like to see the 9/11 Conspiracy Theorist statistics for Republicans, as a lot of Paleocon lunatics like Alex Jones tend to be conspiracists).

Chester Arthur was accused of having been born in canada.
But i doubt it was this loudly or for this long. I mean, after all, he was a white guy.
My thoughts as well
Trump now wants Obama's college transcripts and is chastizing the media for not doing their jobs.

Trump, was the one that made it a serious distraction for the country. Trump does not have the audacity to challenge the authenticity of the certificate released today.
The Birthers don't appear to accept it; they are calling it a forgery, saying things like it can't be legitimate because it doesn't have his footprints, they didn't use the word african for a black person in those days, it should have said negro, they didn't have green paper, and other ridiculous statements.
For those that want to believe that Obama is less American than Biden, it's not likely that any evidence is going to change their view. Without Trump jumping in with the Birthers, there would have been no objective reason to provide evidence that was not going to be accepted by those that were demanding it. The fact that Trump accepts the Certificate may bring some people to their senses but I'm not sure how many will accept the fact that Obama is as American as anyone else.
I don't want to call it racism, but for some University researchers that study racism, they believe it is evidence of it. If so, that is a sad commentary on the views of some people in our country. At this point in history, conspiracy theory sounds better than racism.
I figure for most of them it's not an overt racism in the usual sense, but more an intrinsic bias sort of thing.
So i call it racism, but ignorant racism rather than learned racism.
