For for the life of me I can't remember when it was aired. A good few months back there was piece on BBC radio 5 about
homosexuality in the UK's Islamic community. A few homosexual Muslims were interviews about the challenges of being both gay & a Muslim.

Whoah, there! You've got the wrong guy! Dude, I don't even think the British should have left India, and I don't think the Indians show enough gratitude toward the British for 1) defending them from the Islamic hegemony that was growing in the region, and 2) bringing at least some of them into the 20th Century. I am pro-Israel to the point that I actually pay attention to the internal politics of their political parties, and I am strongly of the opinion that Palestinians would rot if the Israelis weren't there to powder their butts for them. And, in spite of mistakes by the US government later, I think that the Iranians ought to show a little more gratitude toward the British for giving them the beginnings of a government that empowers them to live under something better than a murderous dictator like Qaddafi.

I am not in the crystal-waving new-agey leftist camp. I am one of those over-educated atheistical curmudgeons, and I'm proud of it, man.

Lol, thanks for the autobiographical though I'd admit there's some confusion - in what you quoted there I was talking about the OP's specimen of people, not yourself.

Well, take it on faith that I'm on the same wavelength with you. My slant on this is that it is especially imperative that we try to drop our boundaries with the more rational Islamic cultures as an approach to hedging against the spread of Islamic fundamentalism.

Yep, people like Zuhdi Jasser are trying to pull Islam more in their own direction and IMO more power to them.

Who does this? Source please? One can protest Islamophobia and Homophobia in the same ideology. However, protesting Islamophobia does not = carte blanche for them to in turn be intolerant. That is a huge false equivalency and why I think this is a stupid thread

I don't think there's nearly as much 'Islamophobia' as people at that end would think. It seems like, rather, this is a measure to make who they see at their primary enemy (American conservatives) look worse and its a way that they can arbitrary turn agreement into disagreement by stating that if someone's a centrist or conservative that they're doing it for completely different reasons. It would be a bad as hypothetically saying that any centrist or conservative who didn't vote for Obama is racist while anyone on the left who didn't likely just found a better candidate in a minority party or perhaps just made an applaudable move by not endorsing the military-industrial complex with their vote.

Then again though, that's probably just classic of how 'dyed in the wool' thinking works - ie. my people are always right, your people are always wrong. Makes me think of Dox's recent Ron Paul post.

I don't think about party lines when I think about Human rights. Conservative, liberal, whatever- it just distracts from the real issue. We're all Humans, we have an obligation to not treat each other poorly. When Human rights becomes a one-party sided political agenda, it is a loss for everybody. This is my big problem with news media and pundits. There are things we all need to be concerned with and instead it gets caught up in these short sighted politics

I'm sticking with South Park's definition of the word "Hippie":

A person who thinks they're making a difference in the world but all they really do is complain while smoking a lot of pot.

Oy oy oy.

Now South Park has replaced Webster?

I may as well forget about trying to communicate, I do not do South Park. I am stuck with uncool definitions from sources like books and talking to people for years.

I think the King of Saudi Arabia once had the idea of unifying Christians & Muslims in a Crusade/Jihad against the atheists.

I was under the impression that homosexual activity was commonplace in a lot of Islamic countries because of thestrict approach to socializing between genders (men aren't usually allowed to talk to women unless they have family permission in many cases). Men however can publicly hold hands without raising any suspicion. I only heard it from one person (an Iraqi), but according to him, it was commonplace for men to have relations with other men and just not publicly discuss it (kind of like the way we don't talk about masturbating in public).

Oddly enough, depending on how single-minded I am, I can be in a state of immense personal disrepair - with greasy hair and poor teeth that comes with following a monomania with little regard to self-care. While I haven't been in a Drum Circle anytime in my life, I have been in a Sweat Lodge once.

Regardless, I'd like peope to consider me a secularly puritanical, atheistic, amalgamation of Pat Martin and Keith Olbermann type of leftist.

The radio peace I talked about a previous post, talked to two lesbian Muslims in the UK who performed there own Islamic wedding, as technical an Islamic wedding can be done without an Imam.
