Are you just here for the lulz or what? The automatic complaint generator is more insightful than you are.

Dominionism, anyone?

Quote:
Put simply, Dominionism means that Christians have a God-given right to rule all earthly institutions. Originating among some of America’s most radical theocrats, it’s long had an influence on religious-right education and political organizing. But because it seems so outré, getting ordinary people to take it seriously can be difficult.

The linked article really gave me the creeps, since I had gotten the idea that this philosophy lurked somewhere out there after hearing Anne Coulter a couple of times. I then started hearing strains of the same idea from other political figures, but reasonable people tend to expect other people to behave reasonably (despite all evidence to the contrary), and disregard the possibility that any group could believe this stuff. Now, at least, I know that someone else agrees with the idea I had independently of reading this, and also had years before its publication.

Now that I think about it, I believed that the Caliphate idea, while possible, seemed ridiculously overhyped. I wouldn't want to live in either one, thanks.

I agree. I believe in seperation of church and state but I think some people take seperation of church and state to far. Rick Perry is not violating seperation of church and state and niether are people who oppose same-sex marriage or are pro-life.

Everyone brings their ideals into politics, Christian or otherwise. For example, spending into a Debtor's Hell seems to be an ideal among Democrats, and so they act and vote with that in mind.... :P

^Here's a guy who buys into the talking points without bothering to look at anyone's actual record.

The last fiscally responsible Republican in this country was Dwight David Eisenhower.

After Rick Perry prayed for rain in Texas, the drought became far worse. We can only hope he's learned his lesson and will stop angering the gods by drawing further attention to Texas.

Of course the governor of Oklahoma, seeing how successful Perry's spells had been, also publicly prayed for rain. The drought subsequently worsened in Oklahoma as well.

What can we learn from this?

Right, even given that, when was the last time there's been a fiscally responsible Democrat?

Not to let politicians make public displays of their supposed religiosity, assuming God exists and Matthew 6:5 applies.

Clinton. So pretty recent. And an important note on Obama's fiscal policies- most of the spending on his administration has been from programs that we had committed to before he came into office- mostly from the Bush administration, eg the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Medicare part D, etc. Most of the new spending under Obama has been smaller-scale, and most of the new spending Obama authorized consisted of one-time expenses (like the stimulus package) that will not continue to have a cumulative effect adding to the deficits in later administrations, unlike Bush's policies which put us on the hook for decades to come.

Sure, but if we're critical of Wahhabi Islam in Saudi Arabia taking political control, we have every right - and duty - in this country to call a spade a spade, and call out Perry when he reveals his connections to the loony religious right, such as the New Apostolic Reformation who were behind that prayer fest of his in Houston.

Proving that there are Goyim and Crazy Goyim. Like Perry and the whack-jobess Michelle Bachman.

Did you know she said Happy Birth to Elvis on the anniversary of his death? Oy!

Yes, I'm aware of Bachmann's idiot flub.
By the way, we prefer the word Gentile.

Goy is the Hebrew word for nation. Goyim is the plural. It means -exactly the same thing- as Gentile which is the Latin word for people or nation. I spoke Yiddish and Hebrew long before I learned any Latin or Greek.

Okay. It's just that a lot of people feel that the word Goyim is somehow disparaging.
